I will be moving between jobs in July and they may be a month or two from leaving one job and starting another. At present i am on an extension of stay based on employment. I am looking to get an extension of stay based on marriage just for 3 months. I think I can do this by going to Vientiane in July (depending on covid situation?) with my wife and applying. Looking at the website it would appear I can do this. My questions are :-

1. Do I need a specific amount of days left on my present Non-B before I apply for the Non 0 extension? 2) Do I need to show any funds? The website seems to indicate I may need to show a bank statement with 100,000 baht ? The other documentation I understand and can supply.

Thanks in anticipation for any advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is transitioning between jobs and seeks advice on whether they can obtain a Non-O visa extension based on marriage while currently on an extension of stay based on employment. Questions include how long before the current visa expires they can apply for the new extension, and whether proof of funds is necessary. Feedback from the community suggests that once the employment extension is canceled, the user has options for applying for a Non-O visa either abroad or potentially staying in Thailand depending on the situation.

I'not sure what you are looking for.

You need to delete your current Extension of Stay based on working at the last day of work. Then you have different options:

Apply for a new Extension of Stay in your situation this can be based on being married to a Thai National and it does not matter if this is a 1 year Extension of Stay as you are allowed to work in combination with a work permit, so no need to change again when you find a new job.

Or cancel your Extension of Stay and wait till the borders and Consulate open to apply for a new Non Immigrant O visa.

Thanks Robert and Benjamin. Yes, Ok I will canx my extension of stay based on employment and then leave the country the next day. I want to get the 3 month non o based on marriage and then when i start my new job I understand i can get a work-permit attached to this extension of stay and hopefully be extended based on income ( on excess of 40k). I appreciate everything is a little confused with the Covid situation at the moment but hopefully by July things may be back to 'normal'. I will book an appointment with Vientiane, at a later date.

The last day of work will be the new last day of your current Extension of Stay based on working in Thailand and it could be the first day of your new 1 year Extension of Stay based on being married to a Thai National, no need to go abroad.

Thanks for that. Yes something to consider. Is there a list of requirements for this on a website for savannakhet?

I don't have enough funds available for the 400k which I understand i would need, but if I have another job lined up. I may go the income route if I get a letter from my new employers in time. However the papers, especially the tax papers tend to be complicated especially when moving companies so I think leaving the country may be better to start this moving.

1. You currently do not have a non-b visa but an extension of stay based on employment. You will cancel that extension of stay based on employment, go to Laos, and then purchase a single entry non-o visa based on marriage.

2. There is no proof of funds needed for the non-o visa based on marriage in Laos.

3. I suggest searching this group for the requirements for the non-o visa based on marriage, I know Vientiane website is not correct.

HOWEVER, remember:

1. This assumes both the Laos and Thai borders reopen

2. The requirements are the same as before the COVID-19 crisis.

3. When you cancel your extension of stay, you have until 11:59pm the same day to leave Thailand (assuming, of course, the amnesty no longer exists).

4. You may need to make an appointment at the consulate to get the visa - or use the consulate in Savannakhet.
