TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can apply for a one-year extension based on marriage to a Thai citizen; however, you must first convert your 30-day visa-exempt entry to a 90-day NON-O visa. This conversion is not guaranteed and varies by immigration office. Most require a minimum of 15 to 21 days remaining on your current entry stamp. After obtaining the 90-day visa, you can then apply for the one-year extension as long as you apply while you have 30 days or less remaining on that visa.

Not all immigration offices will do a conversion from a 30 day visa exempt entry to a 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage. Most require a minimum of 15 days left on your current entry stamp, and some require 21 days.

I would say go to the local immigration office with your thai wife and see what they say. IF they can do the conversion AND you have enough time on your current stamp they will give you a hand out of the documents required to do it.

Once you get that 90 day visa, then you could apply for the year extension when you have 30 days or less left on it.

I think this happened way back when the KCI office got split and Buriram opened their own office. :/

When you go to Savannakhet make sure you have a police background check a medical certificate and proof of funds.

Very frustrating because I know other people who have extended a visa excemption in other provinces so i thought I would be ok with a TR visa....guess it is a bus trip to savannaket for me! :-(

I just spoke to someone today who was also kicked back applying for the Non-O in at KCI in Surin and told the exact same thing as you, go get a 90 day Non-O and you can come back and extend it there.

Surin told me no...have to go to laos first to get non o then extend....I was slighted pissed....I had a 60 days tourist visa issued in Philippines because they only issue non o's to Filipinos

You can apply for a non 0 visa based on being married to a Thai, lasts for 90 days then you can apply for the extension I believe.

It would also help if people knew where you were from as different criteria may apply.

Majo Lacko you cannot get a 1 year extension for being married to a Thai on a tourist visa, I believe you have to get a 90 day visa based on being married to a Thai then apply for a 1 year extension, you should also check it out with your local immigration office as I don't have the knowledge about Slovenian requirements. Or Slovakian

Maybe someone else will know that
