Hello! I have a (possibly dumb) question for you all about multiple entries into Thailand.

I understood the 5 year multiple entries into Thailand as 10 x 180 day blocks. So, each time you enter you get another 180 days but it's possible for this to run out. I.e. if I come and go 11 times, that's the visa done.

However, my friend told me that we're good to come and go for a whole five years, and leaving just gets you another 180 days to stay. So in theory you can come and go as you please within a five year period.

I'd very much like what he said to be true - can someone more clued up than me confirm please?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification on the rules surrounding multiple entries into Thailand with a 5-year visa, specifically regarding the idea that one can stay for 180 days each time they enter. Responses indicate that there is no limit to the number of entries within the 5 years, and each entry grants a fresh 180-day stay. Extensions may be possible as well, but generally, it is advised to leave the country before the 180 days expire.

Yes, you can come and go as many times as you please. You could technically enter the country 300 times in a year and it wouldn't be an issue (but your passport would be full of stamps πŸ˜…)

There is no number of entries-limit on the DTV.

You can enter infinite times and receive a 180 day stamp each time , probably run out of passport space though πŸ˜‚

Where did u read it’s limited to 10 entries ? There is no limit - come and go as you please - subject to 180 day continuous limit or 360 day with 1 extension.

I think I probably misunderstood it or read something wrong - in the early days there was a lot of misinformation around it

From what I'm reading. It's easier to leave the country before your 180 days is up instead of trying to extend it

That is the current consensus. For an extension you have to show Immigration everything your showed the embassy to get the visa in the first place. In fact the barriers can be a little higher as some are asking for residence proof too.

You can pay around 2000thb to not leave after 180days again and again until your 5-year visa is up of you want to, but it doesn't seem worth it.

, I don't know about that. I was told otherwise by immigration. But I don't care as I need to leave at least every 6 months anyway.

Yeah you have a lot of wrong information here

Everytime you enter into Thailand, you can stay for 180 continuous days without leaving. It’s possible to extend that for another 180 days without leaving the country. Once that is up you need to leave. When you come back your 180 days starts fresh again.

There is no running out of days by entering and leaving numerous times.

You can do this for 5 years until the visa is expired
