Morning, wondering if anyone can clear this up for me, with a tourist visa how many re-entries and extensions can you do before you’re denied re-entry into the country. I thought you were only allowed to do this 3 times per year but I’ve also heard that you can come in and out for an entire year before been denied entry 🤷🏻
Any insight will be appreciated, thanks in advance 💚

TLDR : Answer Summary
A tourist visa for Thailand is typically a single-entry visa that allows you 60 days upon entry, extendable by an additional 30 days. While there is no officially written limit on the number of re-entries you can make annually, frequent re-entries (especially more than 6) may raise suspicion with immigration authorities. Some expats have reported being questioned after multiple entries, suggesting it's better to obtain a proper visa if staying long-term. Increasing numbers of entries could lead to questioning about your intentions in Thailand.
It is kind of "you never know what," and depends somewhat on the quality and politeness of your response. The first time I was (unexpectedly) challenged at the airport, I truthfully told the officer that I was actively seeking local work, and the officer proceeded to suggest a couple of good places to apply and let me in. (I will save my other stories for later, as I, too, am seeking a more appropriate visa status for now...)
5 years ago I had immigration at phuket airport ask why I had so many entries. Had 6 at that point and was told cant have more than 6 per year. With my work I had to do visa runs quite often. But normally they are quite easy going if you are polite.
yet I go every 2 weeks and they never asked me. Really depends on the immigration officer on the day. There is no hard law as to how many times you can enter by air by land is 2 times
A tourist visa is a single entry visa. Once you enter Thailand it's used up (no re-entry) and you'll be stamped in for 60 days which you can extend for another 30 days.
You can go to a neighboring country and apply for another tourist visa after that if you want. You'd again get 60+30 days.
There is no written rule that limits how many times you can do this.
But tourist visas are not for living in Thailand. Probably by the 3rd time you try to do this back to back, either the embassy is going to start asking you why you're living in Thailand without the correct visa and deny your application, or passport control when you enter the country is going to ask the same things and possibly deny you entry.
It's possible that you could do it without any issues for a year. It's not something to rely on though because a tourist does not live in a country for 6+ months.
you can very easily get 9 months in Thailand with a multi-entry tourist visa. That is valid for 6 months from the date it's issued and you can enter Thailand an unlimited number of times within that 6 months. Each time you'd get 60 days that you can extend for 30 days. Then you'd do one last entry right before the visa expires and get 90 more days. But you'd not likely be able to get another tourist visa or visa exempt entry after that and would need a different visa.
