Hello you lovely helpful people. I need some advice. I want to stay in Thailand for 6 months. I would like a multi entry visa if possible. Am I right in thinking I can get a 60 day visa, leave before the 60 days is up, comeback in and I get 60 more days up to six months?? Please be gentle if I have got this completely wrong. Thank you in advance. 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on staying in Thailand for 6 months using a multi-entry visa. Comments suggest that one can get a double entry visa, initially staying for 60 days, followed by a possible extension of 30 days, then exiting and re-entering for another 60 days with the option to extend again. However, some comments raise concerns about the limitations on obtaining back-to-back tourist visas and the possible scrutiny from immigration authorities if patterns show frequent re-entries.

Do not come in burning season. It can kill. Air full of cancerous smoke and can't see mountains. Take up a 100 a day smoking habit. It is healthier than Thai air. Seriously do not come while it is dangerous and take no notice of all the vested interests who tell you it's harmless. Look it up for yourself. Look aT the NASA burning maps and make your own mind up.

Yes

How long can you repeat this process ? i.e. can you just keep getting one tourist visa after another or is there a limit ??

That's up to the Embassy where you apply whether they will sell you back to back Tourist Visas, some are limiting them now to one a year so what do you think?

It was a valid question. Maybe you didn’t mean to come across as abrupt. The tone of a message can be misunderstood. 😊

the embassy in Cambodia or Lao probably will not give you back to back tourist visas. You best best is a border bounce for 30 days and then extend once for 30 more. After that fly to another country for a week and then come back. After you've fill a few pages of you passport with back to back entry stamps they may question you on why. It would be helpful to have a phone number of a Thai girlfriend to let them know why

what do you mean ‘what do you think’ ???

I am asking here because I don’t know ….

I'm hoping he meant "your guess is as good as mine"

@Tim ********
pretty sure he meant that if an embassy will only issue 1 tourist visa per year do you think you can stay longer
Tim *********
@John *********
Maybe John. Or maybe it's a lottery depending on which Embassy you go to. There are several within 90 minutes flight

I think so too. 😊Most people are here for same reason, to be helpful and pass on their knowledge to people like me that know nothing!

Lucky you 🙂

You are correct, but you also can apply for a 30 day extension once per entry inside the country. So best case that would give you almost 9 months.

If you get a double entry that means 60 days on arrival then go to immigration extend for 30 days that’s 90 days after that leave Thailand and re enter same process 60 days on arrival then extend another 30 in immigration total 180 days
Jim **********
@Stieve ******
that is 6 months, not 9 !

double entry tourist visa were discontinued about 16 years ago! There are only single entry and multi entry versions
Stieve *******
From United Kingdom you can get a single entry or a double entry which is a multi entry unless this has changed

Great, thank you but I think the advice is still good meaning I can get nearly 9 months on the METV
Nongnuch ********
@Debbie *******
yes you can, indeed

And if you re-enter even the last day of the six months visa you’ll anyway get another two months which can be extended with 30 days. This way it’s possible to stay up to nine months on a METV.

is that right ???

I can see that you get 60+30 on any single visit.

So are you saying get a 6 month ME visa and enter at the start of the visa 6m validity. Then take the 90d (60+30) which takes you to month 4 of your visa. Then enter again and take just 60d; that takes you to month 6 of your visa, so you leave and re-enter in the final week of your visa and take another 90d (60+30). So, that makes just under 8 months. I can’t see how you are getting to 9 months ??
Brandon ************
@Jim *********
yes that's exactly how people maximize the METV
Jim **********
@Brandon ***********
so not 9 months ? More like 8 and half
Brandon ************
@Jim *********
the visa is valid for 6 months from the day it's issued. The last day you can enter Thailand and get a 60 day stamp is the last day of the visa. So do the math. It depends on how soon after the visa is issued that you get to Thailand
Jim **********
@Brandon ***********
you do the math mate !

If you do a 90d (60+30d) then that takes up 3 months of your visa’s 6m Still with me ?

So then you have 3 months left on your visa. If you take another 60+30, then you have 6m in TH and your visa has expired. Still with me ?

If, however, you just take your 60d and get another 30d extension, BUT exit before the 30d ie in the final week of the visa, and then re-enter you can go for another 60+30.

So, I can see how you can get to 8m and let’s say 3 weeks, even 3 weeks and a few days. It is still not quite 9m. So I am asking people to explain how they get to the 9m - i assume it is leave a return the next day ?
Brandon ************
@Jim *********
you can't get 9 months. You can get "about" 9 months.
Jim **********
@Brandon ***********
no. You can do just under 9 months - which has been my point throughout.
Jan ******************
@Jim *********
it’s 9 ish, depends of your time out, can just be a bounce same day or a couple of days.
Jim **********
@Jan *****************
how do you get to 9’ish ??
