Hi I am from the US here on a METV and my passport is stamped for April 8. My Thai girlfriend and I were married last week. Am I able to change to a non o marriage visa while I am here or does it need to be done outside of Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US expat in Thailand on a METV wishes to know if they can switch to a Non-O marriage visa while in-country after recently marrying a Thai national. It is possible to apply for an in-country 90-day Non-O visa based on marriage at most immigration offices, provided you have 15 to 21 days remaining on your current entry stamp and can meet the financial requirements.

Have your thai wife call OR go to the immigration office and see what documentation you need to get the 60 day extension be the 60 day visit thai family extension based on marriage to a thai. That doesn't require any proof of funds,

Have your thai wife call OR go to the immigration office and see what docuemtation you need to get the 60 day extension

okay I deleted the b/s out of this post.

You CAN indeed apply for an in country 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai at most immigration offices. You need between 15 and 21 days left on you current entry stamp (either the 60 day entry stamp you got from the METV or a 30 day extension from one of those entries).

You show proof you have transferred IN to the country from abroad into a thai bank account in your name only 400K baht, and you provide the required documentation, pay 2000baht and the application goes under consideration from between 14 and 20 days (that's the reason you need those days left on your stamp) Then you go back to the immigration office and get the 90 day stamp and the new Non-O visa inked into your passport.

Two months after that you go apply for a year extension based on marriage by showing the 400 baht has been in your account for 2 months and turning in the required documentation.

IF you meet the financial requirements GO to the immigration office and get the hand out listing what you do to get the in country 90 day Non-O visa

can a foreigner open a Thai bank account in their name only on a tourist visa?

Plus, if you can't do the 400,000 baht for 2 months... maybe this will all die down and you can leave to go to Savannaket Laos or HO Chi Minh City...those are the only two consulates that you don't need to show funds

Those consulates are closed.
