I have a bank statement showing over 400,000 in the bank for over 2 months . I am also legally married to a Thai and have a marriage certificate obtained from Laksi district

@Hally ******
, feel free to do so if you like but I believe that you didn't have a current VISA but were on an extension of stay ;)

@Tod ********
, I can scan my passport and send to you
Tod *********
I don't believe you changed ANY visa. I believe you were on an extension of stay and just changed the reason for your extension

All good information once again Tod, and good to know in the future

Okay, then, now that we know you're on an extension of stay you CAN change it to one based on marriage by doing this;

you cancel the extension based on employment using a letter from your employer, then immediately apply for a yearly extension based on marriage by submitting the required documentation & meeting the financial requirements.

It will go under consideration for 30 days and then you go back to get the yearly extension inked into your passport.

On an extension of stay all you're doing is 'changing the reason' for the extension from employment to marriage.

Hi Tod . Just updating you on my progress so that it can benefit others in the same situation . I made a trip to immigration in Chaengwattana to ask what other docs I needed as I had to go there to renew my Thai wife’s passport anyway .As you correctly mentioned , I need a letter from my employer . The letter must state that I am currently employed by them . Immigration also said that I need to show them evidence of paying taxes. A documents called a ‘por ngor dor’ She warned me that some employers are not willing to so . Since I recently changed my tourist visa to a Non B for employment , she thinks it might piss them off if I then wish to change that a Non O with extension based on marriage . The fact is that getting a Non B and work permit didn’t cost my employer anything as I had to pay for it myself . So my next question is , ‘is my employer legally obliged to provide the letter and ‘por ngor dor’ if I request it ? ‘ As far as my workplace is concerned, I’m already working for them legally so it is of no benefit to them to provide those documents

If you are on the original 90 days that you got when they stamped the Non-B into your passport, the easiest thing to do would be to go to the thai consulate in Vientiane or Savannakhet and get a 90 day single entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage.

When you come in you'll be stamped in for 90 days and then you'll apply for your yearly extension
Tod *********
Here's how that works, you CANNOT change visa types from a Non-B to an Non-O visa inside the country, :/

Are you on the original 90 day stamp they gave you from the Non-B visa OR are you now on a yearly extension of stay?

@Tod ********
sorry . Yes I do . It runs out early Jan 2019

@Ch***
, not the employment contract I'm asking do you have a one year extension of stay from the immigration office
Chris **********
ORIGINAL POSTER
I have a 1 year work contract now
Tod *********
Which begs the question, why didn't you just apply for a 90 day Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage from the tourist visa instead of a Non-B?

makes sense (y)

When I had entered Thailand on the 3 month tourist visa I wasn’t legally married yet . Also Imy 400,000 was a joint account with my wife . All of it has to be in one single account

How did you manage that? Agency?

most employers will tell you that you need to leave the country but if you have enough time left on your tourist visa and the right paperwork , it can be done . My university had to prepare a work contract and a letter written by the Dean confirming that he intended to hire me . I also had to get my embassy to verify that my degree was legit . If I had known it was gonna be this lengthy , I would have just left the country with the required paperwork and re-entered

@And***
it is totally common to go from a 30 day visa exempt entry or a 60 day tourist visa entry to a 90 day Non-Immigrant Visa inside the country.

Many employers send their employees out of the country to get the visa from a thai consulate because they can't meet the requirements inside the country to get one

Never heard of this before

No . I read up on the internet and did things through trial and error . But basically I applied for a 3 month tourist visa by going to Laos and then gathered all the documents from my workplace , British embassy etc . It was a long a painful process . Hopefully getting a non o marriage visa will be less painful
