If someone wants to change their extension of stay from non oa visa, over 50,

to a non o visa, married to a Thai, will he have to get the proper visa before he can make the switch. Where is the best place for him to go to get this visa and which visa should he get. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To switch from a Non-OA visa to a Non-O visa based on marriage to a Thai citizen, the individual needs to apply for the proper Non-O visa. It is advisable to visit a Thai consulate, with many expats opting for Savannakhet in Laos, which offers a one-year multiple-entry Non-O visa without stringent financial requirements. Ensure that the current extension becomes invalid before leaving Thailand, as this process may involve canceling the existing extension or changing the reason for it. Local immigration offices can provide guidance on the process.

As
@Robert ******
stated get the Non O Marriage to Thai at one of many SW Asia Thai Consulates. Easy to obtain. Just provide the requirements, get the new visa.

Savannakhet and HCMC provide the one year Non O Marriage to Thai without proof of money in a Thai bank.

Good luck.

Can’t you just change the reason for your extension the next time you apply?

If you need to do it sooner, and you don’t have a multiple re-entry permit then you can just leave the country and your extension is void. You can return to Thailand on a visa exempt and apply for an O inside Thailand or get one out the country. Different rules apply.

no to your first part of your reply because he has the O-A. Needs to get rid of O-A by getting Non O outside Thailand.

said it best in his reply.

He may be able to change the reason of extension or cancel current extension then apply another extension with new reason. Better to ask to your local immigration office.

If he wants to get Non-O single or multiple from consulate in another country, you NEED to get right visa. In this case, non-O based on marrying Thai. Almost all consulate around SEA issue one.

he must make sure his EOS becomes invalid when he leaves Thailand . . . for example not having a re-entry permit on it

he should get the Non Immigrant O Visa based on being married to a Thai citizen. You can get at a Thai Consulate, most of the people visit Savannakhet in Laos as there you get the 1 year Multiple Entry Visa without financial requirements.
