Good morning thanks very much to the admins of this group for the great advice in letting me know the urgency of beginning the process of obtaining paperwork and marriage registration before my school contract ends next month 👍 we got the ball rolling yesterday with a roadtrip to Bangkok, applied for the affirmation and certified passport copy a few weeks ago on Gov website and appointment to do oath was quick at the Embassy and have an agency doing the translations and MFA and hopefully all posted here by midweek next week 👌and then onto to the local Amphur 💍hopefully if we are married by then we can go to Mahasarakham immigration to start the process on Monday 20th, I'm wondering if this is a standard request for them to swap the Non-B extension to a Non-O extension a few weeks before my school contract ends(October 15th) I've heard the process can take 5 weeks for Non-O based on marriage but my visa expires on November 20th so hopefully it will be ok

Any advice for us to get prepared will be greatly appreciated 🙏🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary

They have begun the required paperwork, including marriage registration in Bangkok, and are seeking advice on the process for changing their visa type at immigration. You will get documentation from your employer, you will go cancel your current extension and immediately apply for a new yearly extension based on marriage to a thai for 1900baht, you will get a 30 day under consideration stamp (during that 30 days the immigration office might or might not send someone to your home to do an in home visit) once the 30 days is up you go back to the immigration office and get the year extension inked into your passport.

Just add on my own experience. The immigration officers did visit my home. Best part it was last minute. "Hey we are nearby, will arrive in an hours time!". I was like WTF but thankfully my family and I wasn't out that day. 😆

usually they call and set up a date/time so you have some advance warning. 😛

Yeah I expected that too.

Guess the field officers from my office either are a bit of a d*** or they just finished another assignment nearby and had enough time to squeeze in a house visit with me? 😅

that's great information thank you, just to check can I do this at any time once we are married and have the documentation from my employer, or do I have to wait until my school contract end date in October?

@Gráinne *******
you can do it any time you want as long as you have the documentation from your employer stating they know you are cancelling the employment extension and going onto a marriage extension

ok perfect 😊 I've given them plenty of notice that I'm not renewing and we are on good terms so shouldn't be a problem hopefully, is this document something they can make themselves with official school stamp etc or do I need to get it from the labour office or online or somewhere? Thanks 🙏

you should GO talk to you immigration office to see what they want from your current employer (who gave you the documents to get the extension you're on) when you are doing the switch to an extension based on marriage.

ok will do that 👍thanks a lot for your advice 🌞

you are NOT getting any Non-O VISA. All you're doing is cancelling your current extension based on employment and applying for a new extension based on marriage

All you are doing is changing the reason for your extension to one based on employment to one based on marriage to a thai.
