How to change your Non-Imm to Non-O (marriage visa) without leaving Thailand.

The immigration's website lacked 1 or 2 things here + there's other documents that may be requested by the officer. So, I went there and asked them in Thai about the requirements.

For more info (depending on your case), ask to consult an officer at 'counter L'.

P. S - Don't go during peak hours, they won't have time to help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around changing a Non-Immigrant visa to a Non-O visa (based on marriage) without leaving Thailand. Users highlight discrepancies in immigration guidelines, suggest consulting with immigration officers at 'counter L', and clarify that one can apply for a yearly extension of stay based on marriage regardless of the specific Non-Immigrant visa possessed. Confusion arises regarding the process, documentation needed, and the functionality of different immigration offices in Thailand.

Thank you for posting the scans of the hand out
@Vin****
(y). At least people can get an idea of what is required for a yearly extension of a foreign male based on marriage :)

Okay,

, you should have mentioned that this paperwork is the hand out that they give out at Chaengwattana in Section L for a yearly extension based on marriage :/ It has nothing to do with changing a Non-O visa to anything. :(

That section is the one that does retirement, marriage, raising half thai or foreign kids, married to a foreigner working here & volunteering.

All they were doing is applying for a yearly extension based on having a thai wife (or at least that paperwork would lead me to believe so). You supply the required documentation, photos, etc, show the proof of funds, the application goes under consideration for 30 days and you go back to Section L1 <- note the 1 after the L ;) and they put the year extension into your passport (actually they put an 11 month extension into your passport because the 30 days under consideration was the first month of the year extension :O ).

Hmm I have to admit I’m super confused by this. Non-Imm what? It can’t be done with a non-Imm b multi from an external consulate.

I have no idea what you talk about. The documents in the picture are for application of an Extension of Stay and the Immigration Offices I use, I never found in the last 15 years counter L. I used Krabi, only have one counter for Extension for Tourist Visa, Visa Exempt and 90 day reports and a seperate area for 1 year Extensions of Stay and one desk for re-entry permit. Now I use Khon Kean and they only have 4 desk who do everthing.

You dont need to change a Non imm to a Non imm O in Thailand. You can apply for a 1 year extention of stay, based on marriage, with any Non imm visa

Incidentally, and staying on topic, the schools lawyer presented everything I had (I let her ‘carry on’ when she said that she could do it) to immigration (all docs, seasoned funds etc). She’s returned from immigration saying that if The school meets the minimum monthly wage combined with the funds, that she/they can do it.. asked them for a slight raise and asked them to get on with it. One can hope.

Steve Greir It would be nice if I could go from one to the other, would be easier/cheaper/quicker for me 🙂

@Dar***
. Maybe I should have added providing you've had a previous extention of stay, then you just change the reason for your extention, ie from work/studying to marriage
