Hi, I have a single entry Non-O visa and have been stamped in until the 29th of November. I'm going to leave Thailand soon for 3 weeks and will return at the beginning of November. I will get a single re-entry permit at the airport upon departure. When I return I believe I will be stamped in until the 29th of November. Can I apply for an extension of stay at Immigration (BKK Div 1) say 2 weeks before the 29 Nov stamp expires?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a single-entry Non-O visa valid until November 29 and plans to leave Thailand for 3 weeks, obtaining a re-entry permit before returning. They inquire about applying for an extension of stay at Bangkok Immigration two weeks prior to the expiration of their visa stamp. Responses affirm that application for an extension is possible, suggesting that the user prepare the necessary documentation upon return. Key points discussed include the nature of the Non-O visa, requirement for a Thai bank account, and clarifications regarding the type of extension permissible under their visa.

Thanks for all the replies. I almost got the 'one year' extension on my last Non-O but I left it too late. Immigration wanted a new stamp on my marriage certificate from the ministry of foreign affairs legalisation department covering 2025. I couldn't get the appointment in time so had to leave and get another Non-O. My Non-O is based on residing with non-Thai family. I don't think there is a requirement to have a certain amount in the bank as they didn't ask for it last time and the only thing stopping them issuing the extension was the legalisation stamp.

It should be noted that a 90-day non-o visa can only be extended on the basis of the original purpose.. eg. a retirement visa can only be extended for 12-months based upon retirement.. and since the OA has not been specific on the purpose of his existing non-o visa its not clear what that is.. and unless the visa type permits an application for change of purpose this could be an issue.. and he's also not clear on what type of extension he wants.. because he cannot obtain a 30-day extension on a 90-day non-o.. and the advice given previously may suggest that is possible.. because it's been assumed he's looking to get a 12-month extension.. hence care is needed!

Should have no issuee at all applying for the extension when you get back. There's no obligation to let the stamp run down to apply for an extension and in Bangkok you can apply for an extension when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp.

So get the re-entry permit, travel and when you come back get the documentation together to go apply for the year extension

Yes you can if you already have a Thai bank account in your name with 800k in or if your Embassy still does the income affidavit

YES... you can as planned.

As soon as you return to Thailand, I suggest you visit your local Thai Immigration office and obtain their requirements for the one year extension of stay as retired.

THEN submit your application for it.
