What are the best options for obtaining a Thai visa after leaving Thailand for a month?

We are leaving the United States for Thailand today with a single entry tourist visa. We will extend for the extra 30 days to get us a total of 90. We want to leave Thailand for around a month, before returning to Thailand for another 90 days.

We have no intrest in staying longer than this as we need to get to Europe for an event, and we will not return until at least 2024. We spent half the year in Thailand last year including one covid visa extension.

1. Should we apply for an evisa online in the Philippines, Vietnam, or Malaysia, or is it better to get it at an Embassy?

2. Is there a better embassy for getting a visa?

3. How much time should we stay out of Thailand in-between visits?

Thanks for your help

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses plans for a trip to Thailand with a single entry tourist visa, highlighting intentions to extend their stay and re-enter for additional 90 days. Several community comments address questions about visa applications, the necessity of applying in person at Thai embassies rather than online, recommended embassies, and potential challenges with re-entry especially given prior COVID-related entries.

@Bonnie ******
Will not give them enough time upon return, OP said they want 90 more days. By that time (post
****
), they will only get normal 30-Day Visa Exempt, with 30-Day Extension possible thereafter. So they will either have to obtain another Tourist Visa, or leave country yet again and return for a 2nd Visa Exempt Entry.
@Graham *****
was right; they should have gotten an METV if this was their plan. C'et La Vie.

Wrong again, Bonnie. 45 Days only thru
****
, then reverts to 30 days. As I pointed out above, per OP's stated schedule, they would not re-enter until after
****
.

Says who??? Show me that.

You already have a good plan. Visa free entry extend leave the country visa free entry extend leave the country

Your correct Visa for such a trip would have been the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa not the Single Entry. You may struggle to get a second 90 days without exiting a second time if you cannot get the second SETV.

Every country you listed does not use evisa. Evisa is not available in any of the SE Asian countries, you have to apply in person at a Thai embassy if you want a tourist visa.

Savanakhet Laos is known as one of the easier ones generally. But they still have strict requirements listed on their website. Many of the other embassies in SE Asia require an appointment and are sometimes booked out 1-2 months ahead, so you need to plan ahead if you are going to go that route.

There is no requirement to stay out of Thailand any amount of time, but with even 1 covid stamp in your passport you are probably going to get questioned every time you enter Thailand, even with a tourist visa. I suggest having the 3 proofs when you enter.

1) Proof of leaving Thailand within the initial entry (60 days if arriving with a tourist visa)

2) Proof of funds (20,000 baht per person or equivalent in another major currency IN CASH ONLY)

3) Proof of lodging (hotel reservation for at least the first few days if not more)
