Can I convert my expiring student visa to a tourist visa in Thailand without leaving the country?

Hello, Hope everyone is safe and well during these trying times.

I am an Indian passport holder, which makes it pretty much impossible for me to go back there for any Visa matters due to the current Covid situation.

I am currently here on a student visa which expires 23rd July. I am currently looking to get that converted to a tourist Visa (minimum 1 month) without leaving the country.

Is there anywhere I can go to get this done? Is it possible to do it without leaving the country?

Thanks for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, an Indian passport holder, inquired about converting their expiring student visa to a tourist visa while remaining in Thailand amidst Covid-19. Community members clarified that typically one cannot obtain a tourist visa from within Thailand; however, they suggested applying for a 60-day Covid extension instead, which can be done without leaving the country.

no need to go out of Thailand.... as Tod said, you can easily get a Covid extension.

There is no such thing as get a tourist visa inside the country :/ You BUY tourist visas at thai consulates in other countries before you come here

You could cancel your ED extension with a letter from your school saying your last day is the 23 of July and then apply for a 60 day covid extension.

Would it be possible to fly out for a couple of days to a country like Vietnam or something similar and fly back in and apply that way? - Though I have heard that Thailand is not even giving tourist visas to Indian passport holders.

not correct, in India the issuance of the COE has been suspended. No COE no entry

most countries in the region are closed and you won't be able to fly there (e.g. Vietnam)
