Can I apply for a 60-day tourist visa at the Thai consulate in Kuala Lumpur after April 1st?

Hi All. Assuming we can't get a covid extension, my family and I are thinking of going to do a visa run to KL (apparently opening with just the PCR test before flight and on arrival from April 1st).

My main concern is applying at the thai immigration in KL for the 60day tourist visa to reenter thailand. Travelling as a family is so expensive at the moment we can only afford one visa run before we head back to the UK in July so we need this to work.

My question is, from April 1st, can you apply for tourist visas from Malaysia? There are some countries at the moment that say you can only apply from your own country. Very hard (as always) to find any definite answers!

Many thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is inquiring about the possibility of applying for a 60-day tourist visa from the Thai consulate in Kuala Lumpur after April 1st, particularly concerning any restrictions that may apply to applications made in Malaysia instead of their home country. Responses indicate there are no confirmed reports of visa issuance from the KL consulate, and they warn of potential challenges re-entering Thailand, especially if one has been in Thailand on COVID extensions.

Okay, COULD the eVisa system be "spoofed" by someone from a country that is using it into issuing a visa to someone still in thailand and then have that person fly out and back in to a nearby country and use that PDF file to enter the country?

Quite possibly.

BUT

we have no confirmed reports of people having done that and gotten in successfully.

I think the O/P has more than enough information about what to do, AND as it's just devolving into a a can you or can't you speculation about the eVisa I think we're done.

Thanx everyone for your contributions (y)

Just go to the UK early ...its springtime 😘

Okay I pulled the suggestion to get an eVisa from the thai consulate in your country by lying and saying you're in your country so you can use the system. Could it work, yes, will it work? Dunno, what's gonna happen when you show up with an eVisa visa issued from your country but flying in from say Cambodia?

SO if you're gonna go that route you're on your own as far as getting it and how it's gonna work 🙂

Just my 5 cents:

Nowhere the E-visa says that you have to actually be in your home country to apply for the TR visa. All it says is that you should use the Thai Embassy of your home country when applying.

I would have rather thought that the E-visa system simplifies these matters.

You can get a TR Visa issued FROM your home country, then fly, let’s assume, to India for a 2 weeks holiday. From there you fly to Hongkong for another week. And from there to Thailand.

Or you fly to Hongkong, from there you plan to commence your itinerary to Australia. Whilst staying in Hongkong, you change your mind and decide to fly to Thailand instead.

You apply for a TR visa at your home country’s Thai embassy and get it issued

In both cases, there is nothing wrong with obtaining the Thai Tourist Visa

So in the first situation described, over three weeks after being issued a TR visa through the E-visa system from the Thai embassy of your home country, you enter Phuket HKT via a flight from Hongkong.

Given the second situation, I would assume I could rightfully use this visa.

Why would it be a problem?

buying the visa by saying you're in the UK, then flying in to thailand from Cambodia is sure stretching the rules a bit

I'm going to say Tod is correct on this matter on the e-visa site it clearly asks for your current location stating you are in the UK when you're not is IMO giving false information and it wouldn't be difficult to ascertain your travel history from your passport

Easy to check the stamps in your passport and the visa issuing date for IO if they want.

And those who want to "say" they were in their home country to apply for the eVisa to Thailand more likely apply for one during their stay in Thailand, that IO can check much easier than comparison with the stamps.

why would that be a problem? He could have flown from the UK to Bangkok, stayed in transit and flew on to Cambodia. And enter with the TR visa issued in the UK, a week later, coming from Cambodia . . . the TR visa is valid for use for 3 months, regardless in which country you might stop over in between the issue date and the entry

There are NO confirmed reports of people getting visas from the thai consulate in Kuala Lumpur, SO you decide on your own if you wanna try it or not. READ the requirements to get a tourist visa from the the consulate in KL, too

Many people have gone to cambodia and get their visas from the thai consulate in Phnom Penh.

Remember it's not gonna be getting out of thailand, getting in to another coutnry OR getting a tourist visa that's gonna be all that tought, it's gonna be comin' back in to thailand (especially if you've been here any length of time on covid extensions 😮 )

They are hammering people when they show right back up after being here a good while, and they denied close to a half plane load of people comin' back from Phnom Penh the other week.

Ahh yikes... best not to risk that then with a 2yr old and 5 months pregnant then!

as far as the 2 year old, just let them overstay, on what ever stamp they're on now, there are no overstay fines for children under 15 and no overstay banning for children under 18

fly in to Phuket (y) NOT bangkok.

OR go to your obstetrician get a letter that you can't fly out and see if you can get an extension based on medical reasons (they can be issued for up to 90 days at a time)

Thanks so much guys, this is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Will look at other options.

Todd, when they denied the people coming back from Cambodia do they just tell them they have to leave straight away upon landing or do they get 7 days to leave? I'm just thinking ahead to having to pack up belongings etc.

you don't even get stamped IN at the airport, you're held in the IDC lock up there until you can get a flight back to where you just flew in from OR if they wanna be hard core they make you go back to country of passport origin.

You're not banned, you're not deported, you're just NOT let in, so you can try to enter again.

At this time there are NO reports of denial of entry from people who flew in to Phuket OR Chiang Mai (just the two airports in bangkok Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang)

I went to Thai embassy twice to get TR visa. They are VERY picky about the requirements. I got turned away because I am staying with family in Bangkok and need a bunch of documents. They even ask birth cert. of my daughter... Must have return ticket also. I have MM2H visa in Malaysia. my understanding is that they do not provide TR visa unless you are resident in Malaysia. In any case they are not cooperative at all...

I did it Today

sorry to hear that

Folks from the feedback we just got from Giovanni who is IN Kuala Lumpur right now I'd say scratch that consulate off your list of 'soft touch' consulates to get visas from right now..
