Can I apply for a 60-day tourist visa at the Thai consulate in Malaysia after my ED visa expires?

Hello!

my husband and I have been in Thailand for the last 3 years on an ED visa/Ed visa extenstion. Our visa expires next month, and we were thinking about going to Malaysia for a couple of weeks and then when there apply for a 60 tourist visa at the Thai consulate (and hopefully get a 30 day extension after that in country) before going back to the states. Do you think this will be possible, or is it unlikely we will be given the 60 day tourist visa?

Thank you so much for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether they can obtain a 60-day tourist visa from a Thai consulate in Malaysia after their ED visa expires in Thailand. Observations suggest that it might be challenging to acquire a new visa after a long stay on ED visas, and it's recommended to consider using land border crossings instead for visa exemption entries into Thailand, allowing for possible extensions.

I believe that the OP has the answers needed for her question. We wish them success in obtaining ADDED time to stay in Thailand. And believe that a couple simple land border bounce entries into Thailand is their best way to stay added 2 to 4 months.

Frankly speaking, I doubt that you can get a NEW Thai tourist visa in any SE Asia country as you have been in Thailand nearly 3 years on Ed Visas and possibly COVID extensions.

Do NOT Fly into Thailand...as you may be questioned by Thai Immigration Officers since you have been in Thailand several years with Ed Visas and extensions.

Only use LAND BORDER CROSSING ENTRIES into Thailand.

Suggest you ONLY do Land BORDER BOUNCE to get a NEW Thai Visa Exempt Entry into Thailand. Each time you will get a 30 day stamp on arrival ... AND that can be extended One time for 30 days at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht.

You can do a maximum of 2 LAND BORDER BOUNCE entries into Thailand EACH CALENDAR YEAR. Plus each entry can be extended One time for 30 days.

Suggest you ask an experienced border run service company in your area to take you to the Thai border cross and re-enter Thailand the same day.

Be sure to tell them your passport nation and recent history of staying in Thailand.

Don't go yourself. The border run service company knows what to do.

And if you do it yourself ..AVOID POIPET BORDER CROSSING. IT'S PROBLEMS FOR FOREIGNERS.
