Hello 👋 I need advise.

I’m planning to apply for a tourist visa before flying to Thailand. That would give me 60 days, which I Intend to extend 30 more days at immigration in Bangkok. Then, I want to leave to Penang for 5 days and apply there for another tourist visa and also extend it.

60+ 30 and 60+30. That’s a total of 180 days. Then I would fly back home.

Do you guys think that’s doable or I can have problems during the visa run?

There are no covid extension stamps in my passport and haven’t spent long time in Thailand in the past.

Good luck on applying for your 60 day visa. Doing this on line is 12 uploads. I just did it and was rejected for an apparent mistake on the date of issue of my passport. This may have been as simple as a date formatting error such as day month year vs month day year? So I'll need to pay again and do it all over. Its possible I will make this same mistake again. It's little wonder Thailand has fallen to 8th place globally for satisfaction for expats, now behind Vietnam.

if that’s case why not go visa exempt. All that for just 15 days

because I left Thailand on Covid extension visas. Thailand is turning away those who actually helped them during the pandemic. I had no idea those visas would be problematic at the time. This could be my last long stay in Thailand, time to explore other places.

No, I had 8 covid extensions after that I have entered 4 separate times Visa exempt. I think there is one story that has been floating around but we really don’t have access to the actual facts.

way more than one story.

I'm following the advice of a moderator on the Facebook page Thailand Visa Advice and not this group. An added hurdle is flying out of Canada to Thailand with a longer flight itinerary than your visa, airlines often turn people away. If you have a visa you obtained with the flight itinerary, then you have a good chance of convincing them to let you go. I've experience this and know of others who have too. So it's a little bigger than just covid extensions.

yes follow the advice of the moderator that makes sense. I am only sharing my experience which is relevant to the situation

These have both been posted this month in another group about Tourist visa in Penang.

I'd like to understand the theory behind requiring proof of hotel booking for your whole visit.

your guess is as good as mine

Penang have been seen to be requiring quite severe conditions in the past few weeks going by posts on here and other forums. I believe they wanted to see something like 50-80k baht or equivalent in bank statements for 3 months prior to applying and fully paid up accommodation for the entire period. I have no personal knowledge of the Penang requirements since the Covid extensions have ended so am only going be reports I read. Happy for others with experience to correct me.

now that the visa exemption is for 45 days I’m wondering if it’s even worth the hassle of applying for the visa, but I’m in Penang already so I might as well do that.

Any experience applying for a tourist visa in Vietnam? Maybe it’s easier there.

Again no direct experience, and relatively little recent posts regarding the Vietnam embassy/consulates (because so few people have been using them because of Covid extensions available here). All I can say is a repeat of what Brandon said about checking the particular embassy/consulate website for their requirements. Check especially if they need an appointment for application (or even collection as KL do). Over the next few weeks we will start to see more posts and gather more feedback from nearby consulates as more people will be using them because the covid extensions have finished.

You shouldn't have any problems with this. Just make sure you check the website for the consulate you travel to before you go so you can make sure you have all their requirements ready.
