Is it not possible to get a Thai tourist visa in KL if you've been staying in Thailand recently? We are British nationals who've spent the last few months in Thailand with visa on arrival plus Covid extensions. Now, we are heading to KL to get tourist visas. If there is a problem with getting them there, might we be able to get them in Penang?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the challenges British nationals face in applying for a Thai tourist visa in Kuala Lumpur after spending several months in Thailand on a visa on arrival and Covid extensions. Community members share advice about potential difficulties in obtaining a visa in KL, suggest checking requirements beforehand, and inquire about the possibility of applying in Penang if denied in KL. They recommend exploring the METV multiple entry tourist visa as a long-term solution to avoid frequent border runs.

Where are you now in Thailand?

In reading your post, you appear to be experienced Visa/Border runners. (Suggest you read Tod Daniels post recently made)

After this, is there a better way for you to come to Thailand to avoid the necessity for entries as visa exempt and border runs?

Such as the METV multiple entry tourist visa obtained from your home country? With planning you can get up to 9 months stay with simple border bounces.

The METV is among other Visa opportunities.

Good luck with your KL or Penang plans. We look forward to hearing back from you. Thank You.

As far as if you're denied in KL for the tourist visa could you get one in Penang.

There's just not enough feed back from people who have gone there to give you an answer on that one.

Most people are still running down their last covid extension stamp so not that many people have gone to consulates nearby to get visas.

CHECK the requirements listed on the website

OR

contact Jim Tachinamurthy who is most tourists go-to-man-on-the-ground in Penang.

Did you book an appointment to go to the thai consulate in KL and apply for a tourist visa?

Did you check the requirements and do you meet them all?

That is one hard core consulate at the best of times without a lengthy stay in thailand already and they'll either let you apply or they'll turn you away

thanks - we have the two appointments booked already, but it sounds like we might be better going to Penang - I've stayed at Jim's Place before so I will follow your advice and see what he says.

Okay, that's helpful thanks a lot. I just wrote to Jim to ask about the situation in Penang. Will share on this group how it all goes.

well you're out nothing by trying to apply at KL especially if you're already going there and have the appointments, IF they deny you they aren't even gonna take your paperwork they'll just turn you away, SO if you're already going there try it worst they can say is no.

Keep in mind you need an appointment to APPLY and you need another appointment to pick up your passport.
