How can I extend my 60-day Tourist Visa in Thailand and apply for a new one in Kuala Lumpur?

Sa wad de ka. I'm on a 60-day TV that I plan to extend for 30 days. My date of expiry on the TV is 25 August. I understand immigration has moved to Promenada. I'm wondering three things: 1) How late in the game can I apply for an extension? 2) Do I need anything besides THB, passport photo and application? 3) Can I get a new 60-day TV in Kuala Lumpur and, presuming so, how many days does it take to process?

Sorry if these questions have been asked a thousand times. A lot has changed since I was here last. ;)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a 60-day tourist visa, expiring on August 25, and hopes to extend it for an additional 30 days, while also inquiring about applying for a new 60-day tourist visa in Kuala Lumpur. Many responses indicate that extensions should be applied for no later than August 24, with necessary documents including a passport, photos, and copies of the passport details and stamps. They can also reapply for a 60-day tourist visa at a consulate in Kuala Lumpur, which typically takes a day for processing. Some users recommend using a service in Penang for a simpler visa application. It's also noted that extensions grant an additional 30 days from the expiry date.

About the extension, you could also do it today if you wanted to, so whenever's convenient for you. You'll get an additional 30 days from the date your current visa expires, not from the date the extension is granted, so you can do it as early or as late as you like and it will be the same.

That's how it used to be so glad to know it's the same. I'll get it done after my Thai driver's license. 😂

A so called excellent agent in Penang told me after reading my Embassy confirmed paper work, that I wouldn't get a NON O. Went to consulate next day myself and picked up NON O next day. My advice, do it yourself.

Always do. ;)

I went to KL it was very easy, didn't need an agent.

@J**
would you mind relating your visa history? KL would suit me for my next visa run but I have a "colourful" passport with a large number of back-to-back visas (including 2 from Penang but none from KL).

I would actually go to the much more lenient Penang office and use a service (they charge something like $11. it's ridiculous to go there to the office yourself, with these services available.) it's better to get the extension sooner rather than later so you will be able to plan your trip. Remember you can only do something like 2 of these types of visas annually as far as I can remember

The only similarities are that tourists can use it. I prefer to avoid tourists getting confused and thinking they can just go to an adjacent country and get one as they're not the same.

@Jim ******
. You clearly stated that an METV is not a TV, which it clearly is.

@Steve ******
. I actually stated what it was,and quite clearly I thought, I provided further advice also,as it's entirely different from a TV both in what it allows the bearer to do,and in applying for it,as it cannot be obtained in adjacent countries unless you have residency there.

@Jim ******
. An METV is a TV, just a multiple entry version, hence the name 'multiple entry TOURIST VISA'

I'm not into agents and there are direct flights from Chiang Mai to KL.

@Jan *********
mm so I'm ok with my METVs then
Jim *******
It's multiple and available only in your country of legal residency. A different and more complicated application applies.

@Dave *******
I corrected the above I am only familiar with SETV from KL PP Vientiane Savanaketh Penang
Jan **********
@Jim ******
I meant SETV (but METV is a TV as the name says it)
Dave ********
@Jan *********
so don't get 3 METV from let's say New York?
Jim *******
METV isn't a TV.
Jan **********
you can only do 2 border runs with visa exempt stamps a year, there are no limits on SETV but it is not advised to go more than 3 times to the same consulate.

I found that translating the sounds helps with pronunciation but not memorising the writing, like the main vowel sounds "Sala meaning vowel as follows: "A" short vowel like the English vowel sound, and then aaa long vowel sound, you will see the trend between short and long A, Aaa, E, Airr, oo, ooot , ut, urrr... etc it helps to have a Thai friend cross reference everything once you have the basics you can work from there :)

@Jordan *******
I tried studying the Thai alphabet and grammar. Got pretty frustrated quickly and gave it up. I speak enough to get by. Could use more vocabulary.
Jordan ********
Only the writing, speaking takes years haha
Jordan ********
It's not so hard just start with the alphabet and learn the vowel sounds take about 3-4 months :)

1/ 24 August

2/ copies passport: pic page, visa, stamp, TM6

3/ yes, apply day 1 morning pick up day 2 afternoon

. Check the list of necessary documents on website Thai embassy KL and comply
Ivan ************
@J**
the date is 25 not 24 Aug, you can apply for an extension the day on your stamp. I wouldn't necessarily recommend leaving it that late, but you can.
