Hello currently on ed visa about to get my 4th and final stamp that will take me to april 13. I need to leave the country in feb and usually would get a rentry permit. The thing is I'd really like to get a 5 year dtv visa as I have foreign income and enough in the bank. If I leave in feb with a rentry permit can I try to apply for the dtv while I'm in my home country or will they deny because I still have an ed visa. And would it make any difference approval wise if I have a rentry permit or not. I'm worried I get denied and then dont have a rentry permit.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual on an ED visa is seeking advice about leaving Thailand in February with a re-entry permit and then applying for a 5-year DTV visa from their home country. There is concern that having an active ED visa might impact their ability to secure the DTV visa while outside Thailand. The response indicates that as long as the individual has an extension of stay rather than an actual visa, they should face no issues applying for the DTV visa online at a Thai consulate abroad. It's advised to get a single re-entry permit, and if the DTV is approved, it can be presented upon re-entry to Thailand.

I am somewhat doubtful you have any ED VISA ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

You sure you're not actually on an extension of stay (look at the stamp in your passport ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

If you are indeed on an 'extension of stay' get a single re-entry permit right after you get the next extension, leave the country, and when you're back in your country apply for the DTV online thru the thai consulate there.

There won't be any problem with the current extension you're on. They only deny DTV applications when people still have a valid VISA in their passport and I believe you do not have a visa, and instead you have an extension w/re-entry permit. So no issue at all.

Apply for the DTV, if you get it print out the PDF give it and your passport to the officer at passport control when you stamp in and they'll stamp you in on that rather than the re-entry permit tied to the ED extension.

AND

if on the rare chance the DTV is denied (unlikely but possible) you could still come back and get stamped in until Apri 13th when your extension expires
