I have a Non O immigration extension (1 year) that expires Jan 21. I was thinking of just getting the DTV as I may not be able to renew the O visa as I did not have the 800k in my bank account for the first few months and hear you need to show 12 months of statements.

Can I apply for the DTV in the USA while still on my current O?

Anyone do this?

I may arrive back to Thailand before but maybe after Jan 21...

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about applying for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) from the USA while holding a Non O visa, which is set to expire soon. They expressed concerns about not meeting the financial requirements to renew their current visa. A commenter reassured them that it is possible to apply for the DTV on an extension of stay and highlighted the conditions necessary to maintain a yearly extension based on retirement funding.

You will have no issue at all applying for a DTV on an "extension of stay"

You are correct when you get a yearly extension based on retirerment using banked money method you need to have the funds in the account for 2 months before you apply for the year, the 800K baht needs to stay IN the account for 3 months after the extension is issued and then the balance can't ever go below 400K the rest of the year <- if you missed ANY of that seasoning you don't qualify to get a new yearly extension (unless you use an agent to 'grease the wheels')

thanks. I did use an agent and 800k appeared for a moment to get the 90 day and we got the extension and ME same day but I didn't load my 800k in until a month into my extension so only had a balance about the last 10 months. Didn't realize about the year balance for renewal.

then I would say because you have to have a year transaction print out (which shows the balance every transaction of that account for the previous year, the immigration officer will see you didn't meet the requirements for the extension you're on now AND (in theory) you could be found to be on overstay from the day you failed to meet the requirements 😮

Just get the DTV, and you'll be fine

you could indeed do that and that would "wipe the slate clean" 🙂

either get a 90 day Non-O visa from the thai consulate for 80USD when you're in the US Then come in and 2 months later apply for the year extension for 1900baht

OR

come in free stamp, apply first for the 90 day Non-O visa at the immigration office for 2000baht, then 2 months later apply for the year extension for 1900baht

either of those scenarios would work just as well (as long as your immigration office sells in country Non-O visas, some don't) 🙂

Sincerely good luck with it sir (y)
