Myanmar passport holder here, currently have the University 3-month Non-ED visa.
Iโm planning to apply for the DTV as a remote worker, without extending my Non-ED visa to a 1-year term.
I have a few questions regarding this transition:
- Do I need to cancel my 3-month Non-ED visa before applying for the DTV?
- Is it possible to purchase a re-entry permit for my Non-ED visa to keep it active, just in case my DTV application is denied?
Iโm being extra cautious because I canโt re-enter Thailand from the border without a valid visa.
Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Myanmar passport holder is looking to transition from a University 3-month Non-ED visa to a DTV visa for remote work without extending the Non-ED visa. They are concerned about whether they need to cancel their current visa and if they can purchase a re-entry permit to keep the Non-ED visa active during the DTV application process. It was clarified that cancellation of the Non-ED visa is not necessary, as one cannot cancel a visa but must exit with the stamp. Additionally, obtaining a re-entry permit is possible to maintain visa status while the DTV application is in process.
yes, you could get a single re-entry and then if the DTV isn't approved come back in on how ever much time is left on the 90 day stamp from the Non-ED visa
you just have to make sure IF that DTV is approved when you go to stamp in you get stamped in on it, and not the re-entry permit tied to the 90 day Non-ED visa ๐
Is it possible for the embassy to reject the DTV application if they see the re-entry permit on the grounds that the application already has a valid permission to stay in Thailand?
