Update: Visa granted and received!

Went to the Thailand trade and economics office in Thailand first thing on Monday morning, provided everything asked for and more and it’s probably a good job I did, because they were VERY thorough, one might even say strict.

I provided the following:

1. Visa application form

2. Passport photo

3. Passport

4. 6 months of bank statements for my savings account with much more than the minimum 500k needed - I then had to show statements from my current account just to show wages being paid in, then how I transferred that to my savings. So definitely easier to have the money in your current account if possible.

5. My work contract, also showing that my job is remote and proving my salary. The worker then asked me to show proof of the salary entering my account, she was looking for the total yearly salary entering in one payment, but after explaining that I get monthly payments, she then got a calculator out and worked out what a month’s wage was and asked me to highlight that on my bank statement. When I showed her the payment, she didn’t believe me, I explained that the payment I received was my monthly wage minus tax, national insurance, student loan repayments, but she was pretty dismissive of this as it wasn’t the exact figure she had on her calculator. So maybe best to provide payslips too.

6. An officially signed letter from my employer stating I can work from anywhere in the world. She then said that I MIGHT need to provide a company licence, she would need to check with her supervisor. I said I don’t have that, I’m simply an employee, not the owner of the company or anything.

After all the scrutiny, she left me feeling very pessimistic about the visa being granted. She said return today at 15:30 and find out.

Much to my delight, at 15:30 I was told it had been granted, paid the 11k TWD. And returned today to collect my passport.

Total timeline:

Monday 9AM: Application process

Monday 3:30PM: Paid the 11k TWD

Tuesday 4PM: Collected my passport, complete with the visa.

Hope this info helps. Good luck everyone

Once again, thanks for the advice everyone. I am now in Taipei (a little later than planned due to some personal issues) but I will be going to apply first thing on Monday, will send updates.

The general consensus was that I should get a letter from my employer.

So I have obtained a very simple letter, with the company letterhead and Docusigned from HR, stating that I am able to do my job remotely from anywhere in the world, including Thailand and that we are a UK based company that does not generate any income from Thailand.

How does this sound?

Can someone please remind me, is it 11,000 TWD for the process, to be paid in cash? And it opens at 9am? Or 9:30?
