What additional documents do I need to apply for the DTV visa in Taipei?

Oct 22, 2024
2 months ago
Heading to Taipei tomorrow to apply for the DTV.

The documents I have ready are:

Passport

Completed visa application form

Passport/Visa style photo

Bank statement in GBP £ showing equivalent of over 500k baht

Work contract for UK company where I work remotely

TM30 for residence in Thailand (not sure whether I need to provide this?)

Any advice on any additional documents needed would be greatly appreciated. Or anything else I can do to make the process smoother/successful first time.

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is preparing to apply for a DTV visa in Taipei and seeks advice on necessary documentation. They have a passport, completed visa application form, visa-style photo, bank statement showing 500k baht, work contract, and are unsure about needing TM30 documentation. Community members suggest adding a certificate of employment, additional months of bank statements with proof of income, and a letter expressly stating the ability to work remotely. After a thorough application process on Monday, the person successfully obtained the visa, providing detailed documentation, including evidence of income and employment.

Update: Visa granted and received!

Went to the Thailand trade and economics office in Thailand first thing on Monday morning, provided everything asked for and more and it’s probably a good job I did, because they were VERY thorough, one might even say strict.

I provided the following:

1. Visa application form

2. Passport photo

3. Passport

4. 6 months of bank statements for my savings account with much more than the minimum 500k needed - I then had to show statements from my current account just to show wages being paid in, then how I transferred that to my savings. So definitely easier to have the money in your current account if possible.

5. My work contract, also showing that my job is remote and proving my salary. The worker then asked me to show proof of the salary entering my account, she was looking for the total yearly salary entering in one payment, but after explaining that I get monthly payments, she then got a calculator out and worked out what a month’s wage was and asked me to highlight that on my bank statement. When I showed her the payment, she didn’t believe me, I explained that the payment I received was my monthly wage minus tax, national insurance, student loan repayments, but she was pretty dismissive of this as it wasn’t the exact figure she had on her calculator. So maybe best to provide payslips too.

6. An officially signed letter from my employer stating I can work from anywhere in the world. She then said that I MIGHT need to provide a company licence, she would need to check with her supervisor. I said I don’t have that, I’m simply an employee, not the owner of the company or anything.

After all the scrutiny, she left me feeling very pessimistic about the visa being granted. She said return today at 15:30 and find out.

Much to my delight, at 15:30 I was told it had been granted, paid the 11k TWD. And returned today to collect my passport.

Total timeline:

Monday 9AM: Application process

Monday 3:30PM: Paid the 11k TWD

Tuesday 4PM: Collected my passport, complete with the visa.

Hope this info helps. Good luck everyone

Anonymous participant Well now I'm worried about the bank statements. 😃

My company is newly founded. My plan was to pay myself the 500k THB as my first salary so that it's in the account. But it wouldn't be there for 6+ months. meh

Once again, thanks for the advice everyone. I am now in Taipei (a little later than planned due to some personal issues) but I will be going to apply first thing on Monday, will send updates.

The general consensus was that I should get a letter from my employer.

So I have obtained a very simple letter, with the company letterhead and Docusigned from HR, stating that I am able to do my job remotely from anywhere in the world, including Thailand and that we are a UK based company that does not generate any income from Thailand.

How does this sound?

Can someone please remind me, is it 11,000 TWD for the process, to be paid in cash? And it opens at 9am? Or 9:30?

Hope it went well for you! Look forward to your good news! ^^

I would prefer you had a letter from the company saying you can work remotely as well. Does the contract say specifically you can?
Dominic ******
From my email correspondance with them, that's all you need. I even sent my documents via email and asked if that's fine and they said yes. I'll probably go next week myself (to Taipei - I live in Kaoshiung at the moment).

Let me know how it went. 🙂

Best of luck~! It'll be our turn next week. ^^

TM30 will be outdated, when you left Thailand, and a new one made when you get back to Thailand.

I would suggest providing bank statements of at least 3 months showing money coming in, plus corresponding invoices. This seemed to be important when I applied.

@Tim **********
Did you apply in Taipei? I sent them my bank statement via email, asking if it's fine. It was literally just for the past three days, showign >500k THB and they said it's fine. 🙂
Tim ***********
@Dominic *****
yep should be fine. But if you have regular income that would strengthen your case. However, Another guy that was there didn’t have that and he still got approved. They did ask where the funds came from in the form of an invoice, sales contract or something like that.

@Tim **********
I usually just keep my money invested that's why my private bank account is empty. 🤣 I was planning to send the required amount of money from my company bank account to my personal bank account and just call it salary. I assume that's going to be fine. :)
Tim ***********
@Dominic *****
then they might ask you for a company registration showing the company is yours.

@Tim **********
That's the easy part, it is my company. :)

You need to ensure you have a document from your employer that explicitly states you are remote and further (depending on embassy) states Thailand
Wannikea *********
Possibly a certificate of employment, stating you are currently employed and as part of your duties remote work in Thailand and other areas is authorized.
Dominic ******
@Wannikea ********
I heard that term before too, but how is it different from a work contract? Isn't that what defines the employment? 🙂
Wannikea *********
@Dominic *****
a work contract is an offer of employment generally stating the agreement, the employment certificate states that your employment is current and the duties regarding remote work are necessary.

What defines employment is giving the embassy whatever piece of paper they want, and many seem to like this one.

Thanks for claryfing. Now I remember I once requested a statement of salary where they also included that I'm currently employed an such. It had a different name but I think that's what one would desribe as a 'certificate of employment' (even though the term 'certificate' is kinda funny for a document with a couple lines of text saying I work there haha). I think that's the closest I can think of. Which is indeed different from my employment contract. 🙂

The Taipei embassy told me, if I show the business licence for the company in my name, it's enough. So I'm kinda lucky I suppose. 🙂
