to follow up on this issue. I am leaving Thailand on the 20th. I received my passport on Saturday. Is it better to visit the Immigration now and pay for 4 day overstay 2000 plus 1900 fee plus taxi or just wait until i leave on the 20th and pay 3500 baht overstay fee, but its a 7 day overstay at the border rather then settling it at the immigration office. Is one case more preferable than the other in this situation??

so.....they told me i have to wait for a new passport. Come back with new passport + embassy letter and pay overstay fee 500 thb each day. Pretty much immediately declined, didn't seem like it was up for debate.

yea. The American Embassy cancels your current passport and mails out another one within two weeks. Mine was just mailed out today.
