For Bangkok Bank accounts this will not work. When they print the statement showing the account activity and balance, they deduct the amount used as credit card collateral. So if the account has 400K in it and that amount is designated as credit card collateral, the statement will show a balance of 0 baht. Immigration doesn't care that the balance in your bank book is 400K. They go by the printed bank statement. So before you try to do it this way you need to check with K Bank to see if they do it the same way.
Just an FYI, the "old" system was still working as of last Saturday (December 4). I did my 90-day report on that day and it worked as usual without any problem. I did it using the old system because my wife and I are traveling outside our home province and I always do it online on the 90-day due date, which this time happened to be the same day I found out about the new system. I tried registering on the new system, but it wasn't working (as many other people also found out), so I tried the old system and it worked. I have no idea if it is still working, but if anyone has problems getting the new system to work, they might try the old system and see if it still works.
Thanks Tod. I have no plans to leave the country any time soon. The only thing that might change that is if my 91-year-old Dad were to pass away during this time. He's in good health, so that is unlikely, but who knows...
Let’s add up the costs for a 1-year stay on both the 90-day Single-Entry Non-Imm O and the 1-year Multi-Entry Non-Imm O, using Thai Consulate Savannakhet as example, and see which one is more convenient and cheaper:
90-day Single-Entry Non-Imm O visa:
Visa cost at Thai Consulate: 2,000 baht
1-Year Extension after 60 days: 1,900 baht
Total cost for 15 months: 3,900 baht
No border runs necessary.
1-Year Multi-Entry Non-Imm O visa:
Visa cost at Thai Consulate: 5,000 baht
Lao 30-day Tourist visa: 1,500 baht x 4 = 6,000 baht (four entries, once every 90 days)
Total cost for 15 months: 11,000 baht.
Four border runs necessary. This doesn’t include transportation and hotel costs four times every year.
This response, along with re-reading your previous post about "cancel vs. not cancel" cleared it up for me. Thank you. (And thanks to all the group admins for their tireless efforts to help/educate people about Thai visa issues. )
BTW, tomorrow is Loy Krathong, but I'm pretty sure it's not an official government holiday (or is it?). Does anyone know why immigration offices are closed tomorrow? Just curious.
