@Benjamin *****
But surely this is my option 1. Or have I missed something?

Thanks for the Emirates info. If I did that would I get proof of the insurance in time to use it in applying for the COE? Apart from that your suggested alternative option is surely my option 1? The Covid insurance you quote is the one I intended to get anyway.

I am in much the same position: non O visa and stamp expired and now on amnesty. I am staying at my wife's house in Samut Prakan. Do I go to the local immigration office for the 60 day extension? As to documents, I have no lease agreement and we have never filed a TM30 or done 90 day reporting as I have never stayed more than 90 days before. Do we need to do anything to regularise that before applying for the 60 day extension? I should add that I do not want to start a long stay process but simply stay a few weeks after 31 July until some building work on our house is completed. I will then return to UK and start with new visa before my next visit. Grateful for any advice. The alternative I was considering is to fly to a neighbouring country for a couple of days if I could be sure to get back into Thailand without quarantine.

Thank you for your helpful reply. I will go to the Samut Prakan immigration office and see what is required. Incidentally, i was not confused;
