You can obtain a STV online, maybe also from your embassy (call them to ask is better), it gives you 90 days which you can extend twice, so you get total 270 days here .. come with money or an online job if you want to stay, as there are no jobs.... here on koh phangan many are closed & i believe most in samui & tao too .. its very quiet due to restrictions, but its also beautiful, i always prefer low season anyway but sad for the locals... koh phangan is one of the few places that are doing ‘ok’ coz of its (expat) yoga community, i no samui is super quiet & tao is a ghost town with limited ferry service, unlike phangan .. where are you doing the diving? Have you booked with the school?
