This has just been posted in another group.

I hope this doesn’t happen as it would destroy the little tourism that has been able to happen in 20 months. Plus KO many peoples holidays.

We were lucky and arrived 2 days ago.

Good luck everyone.

🔴 BREAKING: According to Thai media, the Minister of Public Health said in an interview today that he will propose to the CCSA to cancel Test and Go and bring back quarantine for everyone. This is expected to be discussed soon. Thailand has found 63 Omicron cases & 20 more are pending results.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The situation is tense regarding Thailand's entry requirements as new COVID-19 cases, specifically Omicron variants, have been detected. The Minister of Public Health has suggested proposing the cancellation of the Test and Go scheme and reinstating quarantine for all travelers. Though this is still under consideration and no official changes have been made yet, the potential impact on tourism and travelers' plans is causing anxiety among those with upcoming flights. Community participants express their concerns, share updates from briefings, and discuss possible implications of the proposed changes.

Lads, this is just a suggestion at this stage. Don't panic.

It has to get Royal Gazette approval before anything happens officially

How would sandbox work for Bangkok arrivals though ?

it wouldn't, I reckon it'll just be Phuket and Samui like before. Bangkok will revert to quarantine. Nothing has been decided though

Not even Singapore has got rid of quarantine free travel so I would be shocked if Thailand jumped to doing that first. But you never know

The question is where have these 63 come from? I read oversees , but if they have been detected on the arrival PCR test what is the problem?

the first one came from an American who travelled here from Spain. Then hotel staff caught it from him and now it's starting to spread. That's the problem

Unfortunately several European countries are locking down again and I just read that the Australian cabinet will hold an emergency meeting tomorrow because of the fast spread of omicron. Thailand might feel pressure to tighten border controls again. Let's hope not.

To be fair though the covid cases in those countries are ticking way up , in Thailand they have been trending down for over a month. If Thailand were to cancel test and go before Singapore does I would be shocked .

There’s no point in vaccination if they want to bring back quarantine, test and go for vaccinated arrivals and quarantine for unvaccinated and positive cases. The fear mongering never stops.

Chill Jim. I don't think it will happen. Everyone is vacillating about the reaction to this omicron. It seems to be very mild and there is a lot of pressure to keep the Thai economy ticking over.

I don't think they are talking about bringing back quarantine for everyone just cancelling test and go so sandbox would still be available in places like Phuket which is not very much different to test and go

It should be okay, but no guarantee for that. Normally the people fly in/out at Phuket, not at Bangkok. When you come? It needs normally some days before changes come in effect.

we will be staying 6 nights in Phuket then leaving to Bangkok to fly out to Singapore (we can't fly directly out of Phuket otherwise we have to quarantine in Singapore). Based on this " Travellers must stay at least the first 7 nights within a Blue Zone Sandbox destination if planning to continue the journey to other destinations in Thailand. If staying less than 7 nights, the traveller must leave Thailand to another country immediately" is this allowed?

So stressful. I've already had two airlines cancel on me (and I've had to dispute with my credit card to get a refund for both), I've had a terrible time with the Thailand Pass, and had to pay an agent EACH TIME the airline cancelled.

Now my third set of tickets will just be money flushed down the toilet for sure, and my SHA++ hotel as well if they do this! Also, my Thai wife won't get to see her family. What a mess if this actually happens, and during peak season for economic recovery!

No, if they cancel "test&go" then it will be "Sandbox/Blue Zone". Seven days in a SHA+ hotel, you are free to travel around at Phuket, but have to sleep in your booked hotel. Also the second test will be RT-PCR, not ATK. After that you are free to leave Phuket (if the test is negative).

Details here:

I don't think it would make too much difference to places like Phuket for example. We had very good numbers come through sandbox and people seem happy to stay in Phuket for 7 days

Yes but it restricts you to the sandboxes for 7 days.

It would be a disaster for PR and the tourism if they stopped the Test and Go. All those struggling businesses which will be affected and all those people with flight plans.

I think the impression Thai government do in rest of the world is really bad. They change back and forth, bragging about how good they are and have everything under control ! I have not seen this from any other country. They only have access to chinavaccin. Pfizer,Moderna etc they are competing with the rest of the world, and they have no priority. Future will tell. Merry Christmas!

My understanding is that touists are alreadyfed up and that this will only add to the destruction of tourism in Thailand. Their much touted tourist numbers so far include very few real tourists. Most are long term foreigners returning tolive again in Thailand and husbands of Thai wives (and girlfriends) returning home to live. Clearly not the tourists that are touted.
