Can I enter Thailand on a tourist visa if my DTV application is still pending in Vietnam?

If I leave Hanoi before my DTV gets approved, can I enter Thailand on a tourist visa and then a few months later enter on the DTV? I know it's not recommended to leave, but my evisa in Vietnam will run out and my situation has become a bit complicated here. I am hoping it gets approved before I leave February 6. Will it automatically get cancelled if I leave Vietnam before it's approved? Has anyone left before it got approved and it was fine? Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry discusses the possibility of leaving Vietnam before the approval of a DTV visa and entering Thailand on a tourist visa instead. The responses indicate mixed opinions: some suggest it's possible to leave Vietnam, while others warn that exiting could jeopardize the DTV application. It's advised that the individual consider alternative visa options, such as entering Thailand on a free 60-day stamp, but highlight potential risks if the Thai consulate learns of the re-entry.

business registration, invoices, bank statement and bank balance, I also included a letter stating clearly what my role is and different streams of income that I have.

You can leave Vietnam if you've already submitted your application. Plenty of people have already done what you're asking. It's UNREASONABLE for you to be expected to remain in Vietnam when you don't know how long your application will take to process. Just leave, and then reenter Thailand when the DTV is approved.

Unreasonable?? Why??

Normally you apply for a visa in the country where you live and do it in time before you planning to travel.

If you apply for a visa in a country you are just visiting as a tourist, you should be aware of the consequences..

but the DTV is promoted as being a visa for nomads. It’s their nature to frequently travel and switch countries.

I mean, you say it’s unreasonable. But actually, if you had applied in person, you give your passport so you have no choice but to stay in the country until it’s approved or otherwise.

If he leaves, and then they ask him for an interview and to show each page of his passport at interview - what does he do then? All hypothetical of course; yet still remains true.

An interview is unlikely. However, it's still best to stay put, in case they ask for more documents (which you would submit online).

I heard that Hanoi don't really ask for interviews....

they may not…. But they may do. I just wouldn’t want to risk it. But that’s just my personal thing… I get, that it sucks waiting around etc.. but it’s just one of those things..

Btw, didn’t notice at all that you were a girl, so apologies for the “he” ✌️

no worries, it's not a common name. It's just that i'm meeting my parents in Chiang Mai on the 6th of Feb, they;ve flown all the way from Australia... and my evisa expires 6th of Feb. So I am wondering if it might just be worth the risk. Normally I'd have no problem just hanging out and waiting, but the fact my vietnam entry stamp is only until 6th Feb concerns me and also family is here.... but if the office asked to see the stamp, surely they would note on their system I only have until 6th Feb? Not sure how that works..

it’s a tough one really it is. I will however note that they have been getting alot stricter with the whole approval process recently, including the requests for pictures of all pages from the passport.

One thing you could do, though I’m not condoning it in any way, is to take a picture of every page now - if ever you’re asked, you already have the pictures. I mean, if you’re going to risk it anyway, prepare yourself in advance at least.

Honestly, it’s tough to give advice when the process is the process…. Hopefully you won’t have an issue. These things never seem to be straight forward, which can be quite annoying in its entirety. 😩

that is quite clever and scary... haha, I'm such an honest person I would be too worried to do it I think. But it's not a bad idea.

can you enter on a tourist visa NO 😮 because you have to BUY a tourist visa from a thai consulate before you come here

Can you come in free stamp entry for 60 days and then exit/re-enter to activate the DTV, as long as the consulate you applied at doesn't know you've entered thailand you will be ok.

You are supposed to stay IN the country where you applied for the visa until it is approved or rejected,

AND

if they find out you left and went back to thailand you can get the application rejected.

Did you look into the way to extend your free entry stamp?

and yes you are correct, I meant entering on the new 60 day exempt thingy.

I couldn't find info on it... I email the evisa team, but apparently you cant extend an evisa. Hopefully I get approved the day before or day of my flight, because most Aussies say it takes about 5 business days. I'm really hopeful. Have you ever heard of anyone getting called in for an interview in Hanoi? And is there any accounts of people getting asked to show their passport pages to the Hanoi office? The whole reason I picked this location is because it seemed a little more relaxed...

You should contact a travel agency in Vietnam. They could always help in the past. See what they say.
