Does anyone know how far ahead of the expiration of the initial 180 days can I extend my DTV for another 180 days ?

And if I do it, let’s say, 2 weeks ahead, does the new 180 days kick in at that date or the end of the initial 180 days ? 🤔

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV visa generally allows for an extension, but it is unclear how far in advance one can apply for this extension. Some commenters suggest asking local Thai immigration offices for specific guidance on requirements for extending the DTV visa for another 180 days. It’s also mentioned that often similar visas are extended after the current visa period ends, meaning a new period would start at the end of the original visa. Some users recommend simply leaving the country and re-entering to receive a fresh 180-day stamp, while others caution about potential requirements for proof of funds when extending. Overall, there are varying opinions, and it seems best to confirm details directly with immigration.

Look up my post on this a couple of weeks go, need to prove you still have access to 500k (don't have to be thai bank as its a tourist visa most can't open anyway) plus 1900tb and tm30. Pretty much same as other tourist visas plus proof of funds.

Why would you need to extend? Just visit any country for a day or two and reenter.

it's cheaper and maybe don't want to travel, sometimes it's just nice staying put 🙃

cheaper if the fee is 1,900 yes. If it was 10,000 then no.

If you stay in Thailand more than 180 days , I’m told you will be subject to tax on your money, I don’t know how that works in reality but I’d suggest you check

This is just my interpretation is that it doesn’t seem like this is a visa that was meant to be extended.

And I think the more people who extended the more they’re gonna require things like having the 500,000 in a Thai bank account or showing proof of funds again are going through the entire process again with immigration so I think it’s just cheaper and less hassle just to leave the country for a day and come back, I mean, it is geared towards people who work remotely so it shouldn’t be a problem for most

Geared towards retirees who travel a lot!

At most offices when you have 30 days or less on your stamp, some offices up to 45 days. If you really want to get an extension be prepared to have all the requirements you used to submit for your initial application ready. Failing that it's a border bounce for you to simply be stamped in again.

Ask your local Thai Immigration office for their requirements for the DTV Visa extension of stay for 180 days. Reality is that none have been reported as saying exactly what the requirements for the extension will be.

Best to depart Thailand and reenter...that will get you stamped in for 180 days. By land border crossing or by Air ✈️.

Many people have already done this and all were stamped in for 180 days.

With other visa extensions it starts at the end of the visa ie if you have a 60 Day Tourist Visa and you extend the extension starts at end of the 60 days not when you apply for it. You get 90 days in total.
