Do I need to do anything before leaving Thailand with an expired tourist visa while holding a valid DTV visa?

Question.

I have a DTV visa valid until 2030. I entered Thailand in December 2024 on a 60 day tourist visa (my DTV had been applied for several weeks before, but not yet issued).

The 60 visa stamp in my passport expires soon, but the paper printout DTV is of course still valid.

I am due to fly out of Thailand in about 2 weeks time.

Do I need to do anything?

Will the expired visa in my passport cause an issue or will it be covered by my e-visa?

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
You have a DTV visa valid until 2030 and are currently on a 60-day tourist visa that is expiring soon. You should leave Thailand before your tourist visa expires, as exiting will cancel the current visa. Upon re-entering, present your DTV documentation to receive a new entry stamp valid for up to 180 days. Even though your tourist visa will be expired, as long as you exit and enter correctly with your valid DTV, you should not face issues, but it's advisable to have all relevant DTV documents ready.

You need to leave before the 60 days are up.

With your DTV valid until 2030 and your current stay on a 60-day tourist visa expiring soon, here's what you should know:

*Validity of DTV: Since your DTV is a multiple-entry visa, you can enter and exit Thailand multiple times within its validity period. Each entry on a DTV allows for a stay up to 180 days.

*Current Tourist Visa: The 60-day tourist visa you entered on will expire soon, but this does not directly impact your DTV as long as you are not overstaying.

*Exit and Re-entry: When you leave Thailand in two weeks, your current tourist visa will be considered used up upon exit. However, because your DTV is valid, you won't face issues related to an expired tourist visa stamp.

Suggestions:

*Before Leaving: You don't need to do anything specific before your exit if you're leaving within the validity of the tourist visa.

*Upon Re-entry: When you return to Thailand, present your DTV documentation. This will allow you to enter Thailand again under the conditions of your DTV, which permits a stay of up to 180 days per entry.

*Potential Issues*:

- Immigration officers might occasionally question the sequence of visas if they see an expired tourist visa stamp when you return. However, having your DTV documentation should clarify your status.

- Ensure you have all your DTV-related documents readily available, including any electronic or printed proof of your visa.

I assume you mean you entered Thailand on a 60 day visa exempt stamp, then got the DTV a little while later. The DTV and the exempt are 2 different things and one does not cover for the over.

You should leave Thailand before the arrival stamp expires, then re-enter Thailand on the DTV (a print out is helpful to show immigration) to get a new stamp which will be 180 days.

When exiting Thailand, your current visa or visa exemption will be canceled. Be sure to do so before the 60 day stamp expires. When entering next time, you will show the DTV and get a 180 day stamp.

The stamp is not the visa. A visa is an allowance to enter the country. The stamp says when you have to leave.
