Will I be able to stay in Thailand for 58 days without facing an overstay issue?

Hello everyone, I will arrive in Chiang Mai on the 8th of May and have a flight ticket out of the country on the 4th of July.

According to my calculations that will be 58 days of staying in Thailand. Allowed are 60 days (30 days on arrival and an extension of another 30 days)

I just do not want to have an overstay stamp if for example, immigration will not grant me a full extension of 30 days. But with two days as a buffer, it should work? Did I calculate wrong or does that make sense? Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks confirmation on their calculations regarding staying in Thailand for 58 days without overstaying their visa, which allows for 60 days total (30 days on arrival plus a 30-day extension). Commenters assure that obtaining a standard 30-day extension should not be problematic, but caution that airlines may require proof of onward travel before boarding.

Getting extension when in the country is no problem

Your problem might be getting in the country, many airlines demand you have a return ticket or forward ticket within the 30 day on arrival visa before the check you in at the airport

I have a ticket out but it's in July. Maybe I need an onward ticket within the 30 days, just to make sure there are no issues, thanks for the advice

I can't apply for that because I'm currently not in my home country and I have to go to the embassy for that

Seems fine and immigration will have no problem giving you a standard 30 day extension

thank you! I'm just worried because it happened to me in the past that I applied "too early" for the extension so I lost a few days but I will try to do it as accurate as possible this time

By that you mean if I go to the immigration office in time and apply for an extension, right? Or the moment I arrive in Thailand, so the 8th of May at the passport control?

when you go through passport control you will get stamped in for 30 days. Any time after that you can go to your local immigration office and get the 30 day extension

, I meant, You check your stamp, regardless of the entry stamp or extension stamp, every time you get it to keep it right. Entry stamp when you enter Thailand, AND extension stamp when you apply for it at the local immigration office. Officers make mistakes from time to time. But the stamps on your passport are your responsibility, not the officers'.

Anyway, safe travels (y)

, If you get less than 30 days on top of your stamp as a tourism extension, you can ask the Immigration officer to correct it by pointing out it's less than 30 days. Check your stamp immediately after you get it on the spot, at passport control at the entry point for an entry stamp or immigration office for an extension stamp.

thank you, I will! If it happens, do they correct it without a hassle? Last time they said they can't do it because I did the extension "too early" and should reschedule my flight which was not possible...

, IF you are applying for a tourism extension on a tourist entry directly, it wouldn't be a problem. If it's too early to apply at that office, they just would tell you to come back later.

the extension gets added on to the expiration date so you will not lose any days.
