When I arrive 5 June with a tourist visa allowing me an extra 30 days and if the 60 days on entry is granted will that mean I can stay for 90 days total. This would save me applying for an extension of 30 days as I am planning to stay 90 days.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about their potential stay in Thailand using a tourist visa that typically allows for a 60-day entry, followed by a 30-day extension. Community responses confirm that with a tourist visa, the user can indeed stay for 60 days and extend this by an additional 30 days at an immigration office, totaling 90 days without needing to leave the country. However, there are cautions regarding changing immigration rules, and some emphasize the importance of verifying current entry policies upon arrival.

Currently a 60 day tourist visa obtained from Thai embassy in NZ costs $300.Should the Thai govt bring into law this 60 day visa exempt scheme then why would you bother paying $300 for a tourist visa when a visa exempt entry will cost nothing, and if you can extend the 60 day visa exempt by 30 days then why would you pay $800 nzd for a 90 day non o visa based on marriage.Just my thoughts

For the TR60 why would you pay full stop?

Of course not. You have a 60 day visa. Exemption gets changed, but you don't have that.

the MfA never wrote anything regarding an implementation on June 1. On the contrary, they published:

This is Thailand, never make plans based on media reports on what will happen. Until it is in the Royal Gazette and becomes law it is no more than speculation. How many made plans because the Visa Exempt 45 days entry WAS being extended to the year end, that never happened and many got caught out?

You'll get 60 days anyway with a tourist visa. You can extend this a further 30 days at immigration office

You have to wait and see, when the new rules will start, nobody know yet.

The only way to be sure, is to get a 60 day touristvisa, it only cost you around 1300 baht, and then you can stay up 90 days ( by doing a extension ) without having to leave Thailand.

he’s applying for a tourist visa

The tourist visa will get you a 60 day entry. You can extend that once for 30 days at a local immigration office.

Regardless that a visa exempt entry may change at some point in the future (it hasn’t yet so we don’t know when it will) it doesn’t change the fact that the tourist visa gives you 60 days.

Some reports of people arriving today only been given 30 days. Check back tommorow see if it continues
