Why was my exemption application to leave Australia denied despite providing evidence of my family in Thailand?

I applied for an exemption to leave Australia afew days ago with what I thought was all relevant evidence my wife and daughter reside in Thailand but was denied, no reason just denied.

Could it be that I applied from Perth in its current situation?

Would that affect it?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user recently applied for an exemption to leave Australia to reunite with their family in Thailand but was denied without explanation. This prompted a discussion on factors influencing exemption approvals, the need for thorough evidence, and the suggestion to possibly seek professional help from migration consultants. Other commenters shared tips on how to strengthen applications, such as including personal documentation and being prepared for potential rejections.

They need to see all the information including marriage certificate and birth certificate of your child also your address in Thailand and your personal bank details and or Thailand bank account details.

Be prepared for rejections. Go back and reassess your lodgement and alter it or not. ABF should have all the necessary info on their website.

Just reapply after the rejection as a different officer will look at it.

Check out "partners apart" and "aussie farang stuck overseas" i think its called.

Partners apart does have some info to help by migration agents in their free time. They actually have done a pretty good job.

Good luck mate.

This is the site for exemptions.

From memory you can create folders and attach them as there isnt enough space for everything.

Also write a brief description in their box outlining it all. Or not.

Hey
@Jason *****
. Things have become super strict since I left back in January. They dont want Aussies travelling and coming back pretty much.

I haven't kept upto date lately because it doesnt concern me as much to leave Australia.

You can use an agent but I would save your cash. As tou can do it yourself. You will need to do stat decs, pain in the arse. Also tick that you are leaving for 3+ months or compelling/ compassionate reason to travel (ie; family), show photos and financial evidence that you have a family waiting for your return.

Absolute pain in the arse but the more evidence you have to support your claim, the better chance you have to get granted an exemption. Also note they have brought in a 3 month expiry date on travel exemptions.

Once you have your exemption then proceed with related visa, CoE, quaranhotel and flights.

Hope this helps.

use an agent, seriously it makes everything easier.

I have before and it cost me $1000. Absolutely useless as I did his job. Leaving is alot easier then trying to get into Australia if you have the correct information. I also didnt ask ABF for and exemption. I told them in very little words and it was granted within 24 hours. Using an agent also doesn not guarantee an exemption as I have seen multiple people still being denied entry into Australia.

Obviously just my thoughts and good advice from what I have seen.

How long since you were in Thailand? You might be better going on the ordinarily resident in another country ticket

I have not sent visa but everything else. I was to apply for visa after. Should I send all previous ones as evidence?
Bobby ********
Jason Gale. Absolutely. They're going to be looking at from the viewpoint that you've sat back for 14 months and suddenly it's become a necessity, so they're not looking at your situation as being particularly urgent. You need to show more history. I'm assuming you send money over there on a regular basis, so copies of the international transfers over several years would not go amiss. But definitely show your history over at least five years to emphasise your application on compassionate grounds.

I feel like I need to send an absolute mountain of documents. But if this is the case it must be done. Thanks
Bobby ********
Jason Gale. It's not easy. I have several friends and acquaintances who have done it, and I've learned from them what Border Force are looking for. You have to persist with the family thing on compassionate grounds. That's the winner. Guys who apply saying "hey I've got two condos over there" are mainly rejected because they're looked on as overseas investors, not as overseas residents (huge difference) and the "I've got a girlfriend and we're going to get married". That won't work either. Any guy coming to Thailand can use that one. I don't think it's anything to do with the situation in WA, they're just very selective and you just have to grit your teeth and keep trying. Good luck with it!

14 months since I've been home. I had not spent longer than a month apart from my family for 9 yrs prior to that though.
Bobby ********
Jason Gale. How many previous attempts in that 14 months have you had refused?

first attempt. I've waited patiently but now just want to go home because I see no resolution to travel anytime soon

Jason Gale. I'm assuming you're on a non-O (married to a Thai) visa. Have you sent a copy of this, copy of your marriage certificate and copy of your child's birth certificate to Border Force?
Phill ******
how long did you say you were going for ?
Colin ********
You need to tell them you are only coming for a few weeks, you can extend your VOA once you are in Thailand.

I just contacted the Thai embasy in Vietnam , the recorded message said I needed to have 65O USD spending cash and it was a 60 day tourist visa , I believe that can be changed in country. May be it is where you are coming from and the visa applied for. I honestly am clueless, but it may be of help, especially seeing as what
@Jason *****
said. I am sure someone else can shed light on it , but i guess you want to be there so maybe look for a lower stay and deal with it in the country , I honestly don`t know tho, only trying to help

everywhere has got ever changing restrictions. Again, I am not sure. I called the embassy here honestly 10 mins ago and clicked tourist and thats what they said . if you tell me what visa you are looking for. I will call again and get the recorded info for entry from here, if it helps you work out the problem. It could be that it`s a high risk area?
Peter ********
@Jason *****
