TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the experiences and requirements for leaving Australia as an expat. Participants share their reasons for departure, including family visits and work commitments. Many note that stating a valid reason for being out of the country for over three months can lead to quicker approval for exit. There are mixed experiences regarding the ease of leaving, with some facing difficulties and rejections based on the information provided. Overall, giving detailed and clear reasons when applying for an exit seems crucial.

My friend was allowed to leave Aussie because he’d spent more time in Thailand then in Aussie over the last twelve months

I left because my bridging visa expired. No hassle to leave at all.

Say very little, say u have family or the like to visit and that u are going for 12 months or whatever, needs to be min 3 months

The more information you give the better. I got rejected the first time for just saying would be out of country for over 3 months. Must have a valid reason.

If you are leaving for longer than 3 months I believe it’s instant approval. Mine came through overnight.

i left on the 5th of march and just got out today mate.

I told them i would be out of the country for over 3 months, How i want too see my girlfriend and her family, I also have a brother and uncle that have lived here for years that i want too catch up with, sent a heap of my passport stamps in with my request as ive been coming here for years.

I work FIFO and have commuted from Thailand every break, Had a few mates from work get into Indonesia same way.. Took 24 hrs to get a reply.

That was pretty much it mate

it seems to have changed recently and become harder to leave Oz. I went back to Thailand in October with no issues getting out other than saying I’d be gone for the 3 month minimum. Just got back to Oz last week. 🤦‍♂️
