Hi. Myself, wife and son are Australian and travelling to Thailand from Croatia. As we are not in Australia we could not get a tourist/work visa from the thai embassy so we are entering as visa exempt. We have teaching jobs waiting for us there.

The employer has been working on the paperwork for this on our behalf and we have collected all required, legalised documents etc.

A couple of questions:

1. I believe we can extend this for an extra 30 days if we pay about 2000 baht. Is this correct?

2. Can we apply for a non-immigrant B visa having entered on the visa exemption? The employers HR department is saying this is possible.

3. Will we actually get denied entry if we do not have proof of flights to leave Thailand as we go through immigration at Bangkok airport?

Many thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian family is traveling to Thailand under a visa exemption and has questions regarding extending their stay, applying for a Non-Immigrant B visa, and the need for onward flight proof at immigration. It is confirmed that they can extend their stay by 30 days for around 1,900 baht and that they can apply for a Non-Immigrant B visa while in Thailand, provided their employer has the necessary documentation. There is a risk of being denied boarding due to not having proof of onward travel, so confirming airline policies is advisable.

If your employer is already working on the needed documents, it is more easy to apply abroad at a Thai Embassy for the Non Immigrant B visa (less requirements).

Let your employer send all the documents to you and apply before you make your way into Thailand, no hassly about entry without visa and onward travels.

1. Yes. 1,900 baht

2. Probably but depends on the documentation from your employer.

3. Potentially. It would probably be your airline that has the hang up with no onward flight. You can get a cheap one way ticket to anywhere out of Thailand.

Whether you can or can't get in country 90 day Non-B visas issued by the immigration office in the area where you live/work will depend more on whether your employer can meet the requirements.

You certainly CAN do it from a visa exempt entry.

You are allowed to get ONE 30 day extension on a visa exempt entry for 30 more days for 1900baht at the immigration office.

You have far more chance being denied boarding when you check in to your airline flying in without a thai visa in your passport without onward travel. Many air carriers have mandatory onward travel rules if you're coming here visa exempt because if you're denied entry they have lug you back on their dime ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Call your air carrier and see what their policy is flying to thailand visa exempt

Also maybe have a letter from your employer stating they request you be allowed in visa exempt because they're going give you a job and get a Non-B visa for you inside the country once you're here
