TLDR : Answer Summary
The cost of obtaining a Resident Certificate in Chiang Mai has reportedly doubled to 1000 THB, leading to concerns among expats about the bureaucracy and perceived exploitation by private agencies handling immigration services. Users discuss varying experiences and costs in different regions of Thailand, highlighting a lack of consistency in procedures and pricing across provinces. Some mention alternatives for obtaining the certificate for free or at a reduced rate, but express frustration over the necessity of such bureaucratic procedures.

It's ridiculous that this form is even needed. It makes engaging in a transaction more difficult and makes people like myself less likely to make major purchases and contribute to the economy. Sometimes I feel like the only thing worth investing in here is a paper mill.

Went 2 weeks ago.second floor

Immigration not an agent

1 week free

2 days 500b

Same day 1000b

She took me out and down the hall out of site to collect the 500b.

How sleasy is that!
Marc *******
They have been playing games for years .

I hear CM is the worst.

Bkk comes in and cleans up Res. Cert scam.

Lasts a few weeks then "business" as usual.

No David.

This was the

When$ got involved she took down the hall,

past the escalators and behind a post.

As stated

Very sleazy.

It's the agent, not immigration. The company that took over from G4T doubled the price to 1,000.

It cost me 1000baht for the next day expedited residency certificate downstairs ... they said each additonal ones was 1000baht additional. So ordered one and then went up to order free copies, but had to wait two weeks.

26 euro haha sow what
John *********
How silly for you to assume all Thais are poor and all Westerners are automatically richer than them.

This isn't about a discount blockhead. Reread the thread or see your way out.

You came here with nothing to add and still add nothing.
Snakenborg ********
You guys make ten times THE amount of money then Some Thai Guy Or woman i bet you all asking for discount in a poor mans country

Because it’s literally a piece of paper with a stamp and a photo you provide. That’s otherwise free. And it’s a rather stupid piece of paper to have to possess to satisfy some bureaucratic bullshit.

If 26 euro means nothing to you. Please send it to me!

I’ll make you a certificate, send you the pdf and you can print it out certifying whatever you want.

Thin end of a wedge.

This page is really showing up the disgraceful discrepancies between provinces... people are just getting ripped off in this case.

In Kanchanaburi it’s free, and given to you in five minutes if you turn up with the correct documents.

1 week to Collect.

Down stairs

1000 bht

1 day to collect. Next day after 3pm
John *********
Happy to hear it’s a week. I was told and was repeating 2-3weeks minimum.

In the past I always paid the 500฿ for the Express service, but I can wait a week. Especially when people get too greedy for their own good.
Justin ********
Isnt it free? But takes a while to come

And used to be 500bht for next day turnover

Right?
Raymond ******
Yea I got mine for free lol Idk

I paid 1000 in Korat Immagration office 2 weeks ago. Was done while I waited.

What visa are you on? It's my understanding tourist visa holders are 1000 and others 500.

I took my

Thai daughter and partner and still 1000. I am on a SETV. This was a topic of discussion in Korat expat group and others commented that tourist visas holders are 1000 and other visas holders are 500 or even free if you go to police station.

My reasons were to obtain a Thai driver licence and I was successful doing that last week. Now I am fully covered by insurance in the event of a accident. Well worth the 1000baht in the long run.

Was only 205baht for drivers licence. No extra charges there.

Tian was 500 also, they are the ones that increased the price to 1000. I think they had to do it due to their arrangements.

Having to use both today. Will let u know

@Andrew ******
there was one on the second floor in promenada that was 500 I thought :/ It's where the old G4T agency was just as you go up the escalator.
Andrew *******

Seems So.

And definitely a b/s agent. Doubling their price overnight.
Tod *********
okay, now we sussed out it's that b/s agency that's still getting them for people and that if you go thru the correct channels it takes a week but is free (y)
Tod *********
There was some deal going on up there with an agency in the Promenada Mall that was pulling residence certificates for people in a day and if you didn't want to use them the immigration office would tell you that it will take 2 weeks or something.

I thought they sorted that out after a few people complained to a higher up..
Tan ************
David Broadfoot exactly. The guys on the second floor denied me all the time.

Always cited tourists visa not allowed to have.

Unless I have a six month visa or more.

I have no yellow book
Zabel ******************
It's always been free or aleast the law says it's free just never got a free one always had to pay the 300 THB and now this
Tan ************
I am on Tourist Exempt visa.

And the staff said I have to be on a longer term visa to get it FOC
Shayne **********
Read the above comment about their processes.
Shayne **********
@Tan ***********
you don't need a certificate of residence anywhere if you have a work permit!
Tan ************
They demanded it's free only if I have a work permit. Personally I had never been able to convinced them to do it for free for me even though I am willing to wait .

But I do heard some got it for free.

Takes a lot of persistence and determination to talk it out in the second floor office.
Bob **********

, you're dialed into stuff up there, have you heard about this?

@Aaron *******
got stung.

Originally two months ago the new head guy said said that they would do it overnight for free. About a month later must have missed the "bonuses", so they went to a free version in two weeks or 1000 baht for the overnight one.
Andrew *******

It was the office at the promenade downstairs. Where the immigration offices, But not sure if they are an agency.
Tod *********
That's straight from the immigration officers or from that b/s agent that pulls them for you in a day?
