Regarding TM30. According to members of a Chiang Rai Facebook group in Chiang Rai it’s required there to report at immigration every time you are overnight outside the province, if you don’t report you get fined. Here in Chiang Mai it’s (afaik) only required to report when you go abroad and have a new departure card in your passport. So what’s the actual official ruling on this? And for members in Chiang Mai, do you report every time you stay over night outside the province?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The TM30 reporting requirement for expats differs by region in Thailand, causing confusion among residents. Members from Chiang Rai indicate that reporting to immigration is mandatory every time one stays overnight outside their province, while in Chiang Mai, others suggest that it's only necessary when leaving the country and obtaining a new departure card. Some individuals report not being asked for TM30 documentation during extensions and note that different immigration offices interpret the rules variably. Generally, the consensus is that if expats don't need to visit immigration for other reasons, they likely won't face issues if the TM30 isn't filed every time they travel within Thailand.

Never been asked about tm30 at the last two extensions of stay renewals. At chaing mai immigration.copy of 90days report seem to suffice.

It's about time we had a 'He said, she said' TM30 thread 😋

After all this time and 100's of threads, I'm still amazed people ask the same question! 😉

Nonthaburi requires the TM30 to be filed but only if you left the country. I travel several times per year within Thailand and there are never any problems when I go to the immigration office.

Chiang Mai doesn't require you to update your tm.30 for stays outside the province.

Went in a week ago to update the tm.30 after a trip to bkk and they said "it's already done"
Barry ******
Then again i do have a feeling the places I stayed at in bkk never bothered to report.

Some places don't really bother.

I honestly think it only needs to be updated IF you get a new TM6 arrival departure card when you enter the country. That and the entry date is the ONLY data that they change in their data base.

To be completely honest, IF you have no reason to visit an immigration office for anything during your stay here they won't know you or your land lord didn't file a TM.30 form.

There is NO official rule on this and different immigration offices handle it differently.

Bangkok doesn't care if you or your land lord ever filed a TM.30 and not having done one doesn't affect you getting anything done at the immigration office.

Jomtien now requires it for 90 day reporting, extensions, resident certificates, etc.

Phuket will only let you file a TM.30 with a copy of a signed power of attorney form with a 10 baht tax stamp on it along with the owners thai i/d and house book listing.

It's a crap shoot, and I'd say GO check with your immigration office and see what they require and how they are interpreting the rules.

I am in Chiang Mai, have a TM 30 slip in my passport, stayed outside the province in hotels on several occasions, never reported this to immigration and (so far) don’t have a problem with 90 day reports or visa extension.
