I am at the Chiang Mai immigration office to ask for a 30 days extension for my TR visa. They are also asking for TM6 and TM30 is that correct??? This seems to be different from just needing the TM7 and passport page. Can anyone advise? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking clarification on the necessary documents for a 30-day extension of their TR visa at the Chiang Mai immigration office. They mention being asked for the TM6 and TM30 forms, which appears to differ from the previously required TM7 and passport page. Comments indicate that while some users have experienced being asked for both TM6 and TM30, others have noted that TM30 is not universally required for tourist visa extensions, leading to some confusion. Additionally, inquiries about payment for the extension fee suggest variations in the actual cost and payment methods.
When I got my visa extension at Chaengwattana, I asked the immigration officer whether he needs to see the TM30 which was all filled out. He dismissed it completely. I asked - do you need to see it when I come back for my 60 day Covid extension? He said no.

Yes, I have done covid extensions in Chiang Mai twice, both times TM6 and TM30 required. I found the staff person stationed outside helpful

in Nonthaburi they also wanted to see the TM.30. I wonder if you get a TM.30 from a hotel?
Ok, you are right about the existence. But It is not working at all and I don't see the point of using it neither since you need to fill out the transport information and so on....
but as I know from April 2020 the TM6 is not needed for the visa you can show your flight in to to Thailand and they have the copy on line in the system
your friend ( or you can do yourself online) can register you and screen shot TM.30 and email to you. If the system is not down. Otherwise your friend will have to fill in paper version. She can take photo of that and email to you. You can show this at immigration or pay a few baht to get it printed off.
the last time I tried to update my TM30 myself at Chiang Mai immigration (to advise of having returned to Thailand within 24hrs of arrival) they were adamant that I couldn't do it myself anymore. And that it could only be done by my landlord online or in person. That was in February 2020
she didn’t ask for proof that it was filed, but asked me to get one from the office. If I am staying at my friend’s house, what do I need to get the TM30 anyway? (am not doing a covid-19 extension so didn’t think I needed one)
good suggestion. Could work out cheaper to spend a night in a hotel and go back to immigration the following day to do your extention, as CM immigration charges the full 1600 baht for not having a TM30 filed
It is a "notification of foreigner in residence" form that you or your land lord or your hotel files to show that a foreigner is staying at a specific address. They have an online and mobile app for it but it is currently down meaning you go file in person.
There are (or were) three possible receipts you could show that a TM30 was filed on you. The paper receipt from filing in person, the screen grab of having done it on the website OR the mobile application
ok thankyou... my partner and I entered on visa exemption and want to extend for the 60day covid extension we will need one of these forms to show immigration??
as Tod says. Every immigration office in Thailand has slightly different rules and requirements. I always expect them to want everything , and go prepared. Better to have too much than not enough.
you need TM.30 from the place you stay after quarantine. Or register yourself. But ask your ASQ for quarantine completed certificate and copies of your 2 negative covid test results, at check out. You will probably need them to travel to next destination
there is a strong chance that you will need this. It is a very good way for immigration to make money. I believe the calculation is 500 baht per day but they tend to cap it at 1600 baht.

First time I was caught out I was fuming. 3500 to make a 30 day extension. I like so many people assumed that the address I wrote on the arrival card was enough.
TM30 must e made with 24 hours of your arrival into the country. If staying at a hotel it is their responsibility. If staying in guest house it is still owners responsibility but often they do not do it and you are likely for a fine of 1600 baht.
immigration offices have a reasonable amount of latitude when it comes to the documentation they require. Here in Samui to get a 12 month extension of stay based on a Non OA for example, you must provide a medical certificate, a satellite photo of where you live as well as a hand drawn map. This is in addition to all the other usual stuff.
Chiang Mai immigration has been more hard line about TM30s since late 2017, long before many immigration offices in other parts of the country were requiring it. People on tourist visas were getting fined for not having TM30s back in late 2017. Not the 800 baht either. But the full 1600 baht
since I believe every foreigner is required to have a TM30 filled out for their stay it seems it would be well within an immigration officers right to ask for it from any foreigner, regardless what they are applying for. I doubt anyone will get very far trying to tell the IO what is and isn't required. I'm sure they'd be real generous after that.
I get what you're saying though. They do seem to add requirements on a whim sometimes.
The information they posted in 2019 when they brought the tm30 back specifically said tourist visa and visa exempt entry holders where exempt from TM28 and TM30.
they've asked me for a copy for both the 60 day covid extension and for switching to a Non-O based on marriage. They also have my passport and many of the other documents that they require copies of everytime I go, despite the fact they already have it. They absolutely love their duplicate paperwork. I guess they have to keep those copy places in business. It may not make sense, but it is just how they seem to operate. Trying to fight it will likely get one nowhere.
