What should I expect when re-entering Thailand by land from Cambodia after my tourist visa has expired?

US citizen here already in Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa obtained at Suvarnabhumi Airport getting ready to exit at the end of next month heading for Cambodia and three weeks in Siem Reap.

Taking the Giant Ibis VIP bus service over and understand that the company will help passengers in getting their land entry documentation and I pay the visa entry fees there on arrival.

Will be taking the Giant Ibis back to Bangkok and wanted to know should I experience anything different at a land border crossing coming in from Cambodia since I already have had a Thai visa stamp (albeit expired) and they have my picture and fingerprints. Do they just stamp my passport with another 60 day visa? I'll be heading for 3 months in Vietnam before that 60 days would expire.

Thanks for any help !

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is a US citizen currently in Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa and is planning to exit to Cambodia, seeking advice on re-entering Thailand by land. Comments clarify that the user likely entered Thailand under a visa exemption rather than a traditional visa, suggesting that they should expect a new entry stamp valid for another 60 days upon returning from Cambodia, assuming no issues arise during the immigration process.

Bus crashes are up 43% according to government sources. But avoid buses that have tanks of fuel inside the interior.

Be. Safe.

Look into e visa for Cambodia much easier and you’ll be stamped back in no problem after a couple weeks in Cambodia

You came in visa-exempt free for 60 days. US citizens cannot get a visa at the airport. You can get a visa on arrival at the Cambodian border and it costs 30 USD cash. There is a cash machine at the border if you don't have cash. The visa takes up a whole page of your passport. Unless you have had many visa-exempt entries recently then coming back will not be a problem. You will get a new 60 free entry stamp. Cambodia is lovely. It reminds me of Thailand 20 years ago. They accept dollars everywhere but you get your change in local currency which is worthless outside the country so use small $ bills.

You didn't get a visa at the airport.

You don't have a visa, you've entered with no visa using the 60 day "visa exempt" entry. You'll get same when you enter again.

All sounds Ok

O have done similar

Couldn't pay me enough to get on one of those buses. Did you really get a tourist visa at the airport or a visa exemption stamp? Either way you can extend both.

there was a recent very thorough video done before I left the states in October showing the daytime bus ride over, the stops, the border process, and arrival into Siem Reap. It looked pretty painless. I really don't mind the bus ride, I've done worse on megabus Pittsburgh to New York City on an overnight.

Seems Ok guess you will find out hey

I'll definitely have to find the appropriate FB group to report back on, if you have any suggestions?

My reason for saying it is the amount of road fatalities relating to buses of all sizes in Thailand. Did a visa bus ride 9 years ago before I knew better and barely slept through the fear of the speeds we were doing.

I believe you were stamped in with a 60-day Visa Exempt ie no Visa.

Are you aware this can be extended at an immigration office for a cost of ฿1900?

yes, but sort of want to spread out my time across several countries in a slow-travel through SE Asia. Was probably looking at doing the

extension towards the end of 2025.

this return from Cambodia will only be my second time in Thailand ever. Have had no other legal or Visa issues since I have been here, and I don't plan on returning to Thailand until maybe the late fall/winter

u should be absolutely fine (i wouldn'tbe worried at all). there are people having much more entries every year without a problem.

but as its in the hand of the officer there cant be a guarantee
