What should I do if my DTV entry stamp in Thailand is incorrect?

For all people entering with a DTV: double check the IO stamps the correct dates!

I just realized my DTV was stamped in for only 5 months instead of 180 days 🤦‍♂️

I entered via land border and i’m now very far away from there. TBH i’m not even planning to stay the full 5 months.

Should i even try to get it fixed at the nearest immigration office?

In fact, my calculation says it’s only 149 days. This already includes the start and end dates.

Start date: October 7, 2024

End date: March 4, 2025

UPDATE JAN 2025: Got my visa stamp fixed at my local Chiang Mai immigration office while doing 90 day report.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster discovered that their Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) was mistakenly stamped for only 5 months instead of the full 180 days upon entry via a land border. They expressed uncertainty about whether to pursue a correction at a nearby immigration office. Community comments emphasized the importance of checking entry stamps immediately and noted that while correcting an air entry stamp is generally possible at any immigration office, correction of a land entry stamp is not guaranteed. Eventually, the poster successfully corrected their stamp at the Chiang Mai immigration office. The thread also addressed questions about the DTV and shared advice on managing immigration issues tied to border crossings.

That's great that your local Thai Immigration Office at Chiang Mai corrected your Entry Stamp (Stay duration) for you instead of making you go back to your Land Border Entry Point (Poipet / Aranyaprathet) !

Happy New Year! And, how seamless was the interaction with Chiang Mai Thai Immigration Officials (both about correcting your Entry Stamp and doing your 90-Days Report)?

Totally seamless. Explained the bad stamp to english speaking volunteer and they took my passport to IO who fixed it. 90 day report was quick too

May I ask what documents you need when you do your 90 day report?

TM30 and TM47. Latter was available at my local immigration office and quick to fill out

Did you go back to the Poi Pet (Aranyaprathet) land border checkpoint to fix this October entry stamp or have already exit out of Thailand?

i did not go back and haven’t exited yet. Also haven’t gone to my local immigration office

Hmmm...is it possible that your passport expires on the date Thai Immigration entered on arrival into Thailand ??? March 4, 2025 ???
Scooter *****
@James *******
he wouldn’t have gotten visa with only 5months left in passport?

😮 yep that's a definite bad stamp and it looks like you got at the WORST land crossing in thailand Aranyaprathet/Poipet 🙁

Go to the immigration office where you are and see if they'll correct it

OR

slog back to that border to get it fixed

OR

leave before that stamp runs out 😕

those are your choices

Aha cool. I normally drive through there as well (by car). Thus you dealt with immigration outside, not in the office upstairs.

These days, I prefer using Ban Khao Din (also under the jurisdiction of Aranyaprathet and bearing the same stamps) about 50km South. Much faster and easier and friendly personnel too.

thank you for laying out the options.

Yep well aware Poi Pet is the worst but the IOs were friendly. It wasn’t a border run either. Came back after staying in Cambodia for 4 months 😃

The IO was young and seemed like it was his first DTV. He had a senior IO checking over his shoulder.

I even briefly checked the stamp to ensure it wasn’t 30 or 60 days, and March seemed like it was 6 months at first glance. Lesson learned 😔

I will go back to immigration (Chiang Mai) just to get a datapoint on what they will do and share it here.

Aranyaprathet or Poipet? It's the same border but if you're talking about Poipet you must be referring to the Cambodian side. The Thai side is known as Aranyaprathet or "Aran" for short. Khlong Leuk is the informal name used by border immigration agents as that's where the immigration office is located.

Anyway, did you come in by bus or did you walk across the border? Officials there don't have the best reputation on either side, but especially the Thai side.

Keep in mind if you're "bad stamped" this is how it works

You can correct ANY bad AIR entry stamp at the immigration office where you stay

BUT

if you have a bad LAND entry stamp the immigration office where you stay is NOT obligated in any way to correct it, they can decline and tell you to go back to the border that bad stamped you to fix it

ALWAYS LOOK at your entry stamp, hundreds of people get bad stamped every week and believe it or not it is !00% YOUR responsibility to get stamped in correctly <- as it's your passport 😛

agreed 1st thing I check whilst walking away from IO

@Tod ********
Hmm. That is strange. Why do they treat air and land arrivals differently?
Tod *********
dunno but I know person after person bad stamped at land borders who were told "go back and get it fixed" by their local immigration office..

Sometimes they'll correct bad land stamps but sometimes they even send bad air stamps back to the airport you flew in at..
Tod *********
How about you post an image of your ENTRY STAMP that you got when you entered at the land border ?
John *******
Does it say “March” or does it say “03”?

Just edited the post with a photo. It says March

because April (4) 3rd would be the right date. Somehow the officer flipped it.

hmm interesting. When i plug in April 3rd it gives me 179 days. I’m including the start and end date as days

Regardless, a stamp for 179 days like that would be an honest mistake and acceptable instead of 180, but 149 days is quite different haha (speaking on behalf of other people in this group that may want the full 6 months)

If you plan to leave before the stamp date then I'd just forget about it. You could ask at a local immigration office if they would adjust the stamp, unlikely tho since it's a land crossing.
