TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is looking for advice on crossing from Thailand to Cambodia at the Poipet border after staying in Thailand for 45 days. They are concerned about potentially being denied re-entry if they don't stay overnight. Several comments caution about the difficulties at this border crossing, with recommendations for either staying a night or opting for a more reliable visa run arrangement to a different border, like Laos. It’s suggested that getting a TM30 form in advance might help with re-entry and extending their stay could avoid issues.

update tomorrow, but in short 30 day extension, still in Thailand 👍

Great idea to wait to be at the border already to wonder if it's fine... ;-)

Why? good luck, you’re going to need it.

If you're already heading out that way why not spend a couple of days in Siem Reap and see Angkor Wat or down a few beers on pub street? It's a mere 150km or less than 2 hours away by taxi

@Paul ******
yep, shared taxi is $10 each. Also not far from Lake Tonle Sap.

The border town on the Thai side is called Aranyaprathet and the vibe there is completely different to Poipet across the border. Poipet being a dodgy casino town full of Khmer, Thai, Chinese and unusually, Indonesian scam artists. They see a lot of westerners passing through tow but very few stay in Poipet. Aranyaprathet is much safer, the accommodation is cleaner and better in every respect.

I'd personally advise choosing another border for a visa run though as Aranyaprathet immigration can be strict and take a long time to pass.

Make sure you have the 3 proofs with you. 20k baht in cash, accommodation booked along with a flight out at the end of your 45 days. Money in the bank is no good, must be cash.

starting to look like a nightmare 🤦‍♂️

to be fair you should have these 3 proofs any time you enter Thailand. They're standard requirements but not often asked for. Having them makes it much harder for them to refuse you

You’re probably better off staying in a hotel on the Thai side, getting a copy of the TM30 they file for you and doing a 30 day extension at the nearest immigration office.

That gives you some leeway to go to a “friendly” border in Laos and do a bounce with a company there.

The 30 days won’t give you the time you’re after but at least with a border run company doing a Laos border run you’re not likely to be shaken down for money or just blankly refused entry and told to go find a flight to come back. It’s 1,900 baht for the extension. I’m sure a shake down or having to fly back will be way more than that.

thanks Stuart I will get a copy of tm30 like I say I don’t mind staying one night, but I don’t want to be refused re-entry and have to fly back because my motorbike is Thailand side and that would be hassle coming back from the nearest airport is a fairway. Thanks again for all the replies, I will keep you posted how I get on tomorrow. Thanks again

I don’t know that area at all but it looks like Sa Kaeo immigration office is fairly close.

If it's your first time in Thailand and you don't intend to do it anytime soon again you should be fine by staying 1 night in Cambodia.

They will most likely give you a warning though

I personally know of 2 guys from this week happened to them
Lynnette *******
Why didn't you extend by 30 days in thailand, Or wasn't that suitable? Could have done a border bounce later and get another 45 days.

@Lynnette ******
I went with agent and did get 45 days each time cost very little.

Many reports on here stating you have to stay one night there. Many other horror stories from that crossing. Update us with your findings when you can.

Unfortunately you've picked the absolute worst land border in Thailand to try and use. You're likely to be denied re-entry on the same day, possibly asked for money, and even possibly told you cannot return by land from that border at all and to fly back.

I don’t mind staying one night if I have to, hopefully they don’t refuse me because I have my motorbike on the Thailand side of the border or would anybody is suggesting travelling tomorrow to a different border crossing tomorrow Thanks for any answers.

@Kev *******
usually recommended to use an agent for a border bounce if you're going to use that border. They'll ensure you're out and back quickly without any issues. Even immigration reported they want people to use agents at that border.

I wonder why that is, not
