When should I file my TM30 report after returning to Thailand from a short trip?

Hello everyone,

If i leave the country for a few weeks but keep my rented place while i am away, does my landlord have to make a new TM30 report when i return?

I got a new one year extension yesterday with adress report receipt which tells me to report adress again in 90 days as normal, but i leave the country tomorrow and come back end of month, i have been told by some that i then have to wait 90 days from my return before i do a new report. Can i do the report on my current given report date as that is easier for me, or do i have to do it after 90 days upon returning to the country (never mind that you can do it 2 weeks before and one week after the date, i just need to know what date i have to keep in mind, the one on my current 90 day receipt, or the one 90 days after returning)?

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When you leave Thailand and return, your 90-day reporting period resets from your re-entry date. You must file a new TM30 report upon your return, counting 90 days from the date you re-enter the country. Although you can report 14 days before the due date and 7 days after, the countdown starts again from your entry stamp upon returning. It is advisable to manage your reports accordingly, and having a re-entry permit ensures your visa extension remains valid during your absence.

TM30 everytime you left a place for another one and come back.

I left my house for a long weekend at the beach, the resort reported me as guest, I had to do TM30 again when back home.

I saw something that said they don't do that anymore for short trips as long as you maintain your residence

i’m pretty sure that’s not the case anymore? Or at least not everywhere. Ive been on several weekend trips the last year, and i had no issue getting my extension yesterday.

do you know?

Charlotte Wallin. Depends on the immigration office and whether the hotel decided to register you or not (during covid I suspect many bookings have not gone through the books). Bangkok still wants the TM30 if you've been interprovincial. That's why (where I can) get my lady to register whenever we go away. I always tell her to tell the reception I do not want a receipt. That sometimes brings a lot of smiles

Frédéric Umar Letellier. That's a pisser when that happens. If I go away with the woman, I get her to use her ID to check in. I had one friggen night in Phuket and six months later when I went for extension they pulled me up on it at CW. They asked me when did I return to Bangkok. For the first time in my life I thought on my feet, and said "yesterday". They got me to do a new TM30 before they'd do my extension, but I avoided the fine

I had the same issue, that's how I knew it. But my immigration lady was nice, she just told me to rectify

ok, IF you have a paper that tells you when to do a 90 day report BUT you're leaving the country before that date, when you come back the count down clock starts over and your next 90 day report is due 89 days from the date you stamp in to the country.

is your paper like this?

@Tod ********
yes sir, just a normal 90 report reciept like that. I will ignore the next report date on my receipt then, and just go 89 days after returning again. Thanks!

@Charlotte *******
(y) remember when you come back the next due date is 89 days after the date you stamp in BUT you can file a 90 day report 14 days before that date and up to 7 days after it without getting a fine.

Take care, safe travels make SURE you buy a re-entry permit before you leave so you keep your extension alive when you come back

thank you, i got the re-entry permit at the same time as i got my extension yesterday, so i think i should be set now. Only thing remaining is getting the Thailand pass for return in 3 weeks 🙂

Yes you can report 'early' as you appear to desire. I did it once by pure accident and not fully understanding the rules. Immigration told me they were happy to do so. Obviously things change but go ahead
Tod *********
@Ian ********
nope, that is the wrong answer. IF they are leaving before their 90 day report is due they just count 89 days from the date they come back and then go do a 90 day report

Brandon Thurkettle. It exists because it provides employment and allows for the occasional fine! 😆

Your 90 day report re-sets when you leave the Country
Bobby ********
Steve Greir. Actually when you re-enter. The 90 days runs from the stamped in date
Steve *******
@Bobby *******
It re-sets when you leave.The 90 days START when you re -enter.
Bobby ********
Steve Greir. Yeah. So it's entry date plus 90 days. The OP wants to know when he has to report!

@Bobby *******
It's ok, I'm guessing English isnt your first language.

Steve Greir. Well yours obviously isn't! 🤣🤣. Reset = Starts again! Cackle

The 90-day resets when you re-enter the country
Steve *******
@Bobby *******
when you leave it resets, when you re-enter the country it restarts.

It seems you need someone to explain the difference between re-set and re-start. Scot Smith, you too. 😂

Steve Greir. When you reset something, you start it again. But I guess the dictionary is wrong as well? Cackle

You'll need a new TM30 whenever you leave the country and return.

This was talked about a bit a few years back during the TM30 TM28 debacle. It's actually office specific, or at least was during the time. For instance I live near a border town, I could pop over to Myanmar with a reentry permit and come back and not have to resubmit my TM30 if staying at the same address.

do you happen to know whats the case for Krabi?
Wannikea *********
@Charlotte *******
as well keep in mind that 90 day report is reporting that you have been in the kingdom 90 days. It resets upon returning to Thailand, so make a mental note and and put it on your calendar app.
Wannikea *********
@Charlotte *******
almost guaranteed you need to get your landlord to do a TM30. Its not a big deal, they login and record you as staying at the property.

@Wannikea ********
and it should be Easy for them even if im not registered as «checked out» of the place?
Wannikea *********
@Charlotte *******
there is no check out notation/system, it's only check-in.

A landlord reports when someone comes to stay, not when someone leaves.

ah I thought the office specific part was domestic travel but everyone wanted a new one if you left the country.

I don't understand why it exists at all though 🙄

@Brandon ***********
Honestly this is not a common occurrence and protocol, and ymmv, but it's a handy option to avail yourself of, if your situation fits the criteria.

I think you’ll have to do the report on your way back. You start counting 90 days from that day ^^
