When should I apply for a one-year extension on my Non-Immigrant O visa in Thailand?

Probably this was asked before but I couldn't find the answer in the group:

Have a Non-Immigrant O visa (ME) that expires March 15. I entered the Kingdom last Feb 8th and got granted 90 days (until May 8th). I want to get a year extension at Immigration. I am aware of the paperwork and other conditions.

The question is however: do I go to Immigration 30 days before March 15th (end of original visa) or before May 8th?

Thx for your advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the timing for applying for a one-year extension of their Non-Immigrant O visa. Responses clarified that the application for extension should be made 30 or 45 days before the permission of stay expires, which is May 8 in this case, rather than the visa expiration date of March 15.

30 days before your permission of stay expires. Your visa dates are only mean the time before you finaly should enter Thailand. A extention you request within 45 or 30 days (depend on your local immigration) before your permission of stays expires. So from 30 or 45 days before 8th of May.

Is that not contradictory to what James told me (March) or a I missing something here? I don't need to stay in the country later (flight is April 19th), just want to make sure I have my (marriage) extension for coming year.

James was talking about bouncing and maximise the use of your current visa. It did not answer your question about when can you do the yearly extention. I explained that.

if all you're wanting to do is get a year extension, (not bounce to get another 90 day entry stamp) you can apply for the year extension any time AFTER April 8th

Thanks for clarifying that!

You can do as
@Ja***
says to get an extra 90 days or apply before your current stamp expires. It’s irrelevant when the visa physically expires (unless you want to bounce to get extra days).

Your one year Visa expires on March 15th .. not May.

Do a BORDER BOUNCE by March 15th and get One final 90 day stamp.
