Thank you for adding me to the group .

My situation.

I will arrive in Chiang Mai April 27 on a 90 day non immigrant based on 50 years of age . My finances will be in place mid May or earlier . I'd like to know when I can start the process of extension for one year .

A possible complication is , I have to return to the UK for 1 week on July 9 . Is it possible to obtain the extension by then ? My 90 day will expire around July 24 . I'm aware I'll need to get the re entry permit .

Thanks in advance for your input .

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user plans to arrive in Chiang Mai on a 90-day Non-Immigrant O visa and seeks guidance on when to start the extension process for a one-year stay. They need to return to the UK for a week in July, while their visa expires around July 24. Responses indicate that the extension can be applied for when there are 45 days remaining on the current visa, making June 9 a critical date. Suggestions also include initially entering on a tourist visa, securing finances, and later applying for the Non-Immigrant O visa and its extension in Thailand.

suggestion don't even waste the effort or time to come in on a Non-O visa this time.

Come in on a single entyr tourist visa, get your funds transfered in and seasoning, then leave.

When you come back do so on the 90 day non-O visa, and then you can go when you have 45 days or less on that stamp to get the year extension.

Remember the funds need to be IN the account for 2 months on the date you APPLY for your extension.

You might consider coming in on a tourist visa and getting an extension to stay till July, during that time get your financials in order. Then return after July on a Non Imm O and extend in country or visa exempt and proceed from there. I think the scenario you propose is going to be fraught with timeline stress.

In Chiang Mai you can apply when you have 45 days left on your existing stay. That's June 9th I think just going by your math.

I'm not sure what the consideration period is for a retirement extension in Chiang Mai, so maybe someone with experience can provide some more information. If it's a 30 day under consideration you may be able to just make it before you leave, and they may be able to cut you a day or two of slack if you explain the situation and ask if you can return early.

Hopefully someone can confirm the under consideration length so you can plan accordingly.

don't think there's any under consideration period for a retirement extension
