Hello, First let me say thank you for all the information and help this group provides.

In the next 6 months, I will be starting the 90-day Non-O over 50 Retirement Visa process and then applying for the 1-year extension. I have a good idea of the process and requirements to accomplish this, thanks to this group.

I still have one question, knowing that I'll still need to return home once a year to take care of personal business. Iโ€™m trying to plan in advance the date I would need to be in Thailand to keep the Visa renewed and valid.

At what point will your extension date start and then need to be renewed? Is it based on the date you apply (after money seasoning for 60 days) for the 1-year extension or the date your 90-day is over?

Thanks again,

GG

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about the extension process for a 90-day Non-O over 50 Retirement Visa in Thailand, specifically seeking clarity on when the one-year extension starts and must be renewed. The community clarified that the extension expiration will always align with the original 90-day visa stamp's expiration date, regardless of when the extension application is submitted.

How to get a non-O visa if you are only 29 and retired?

@Reny ***
You can but not based on being over 50 years of age, you may try based on volunteer work, being married to a Thai, depending on partner with long stay etc. The O stand for Others and not only as some people like to say retirement.

you don't ๐Ÿ˜• there is no option for that

the way it works is you first get the 90 day non-O visa, and then you get a yearly extension tagged on to the expiration date of that 90 day stamp. So your extension expiration date will always be the date your original 90 day non-O visa stamp expired.

Even applying 30 days before your current extension expires doesn't change the date, they just add a year on to your current stamp.

My original 90 day Non-O visa expired on April 5th and that has been the expiration date of my yearly extension for many many years now

Here's a stamp I got in Bangkok 42 days before my extension expired (in bangkok you can do it when you have 45 days or less left on your stamp and as you can see I was given until April 5th like always,

That's the way I assumed it would work but I did my first 1 year extension of a Non-Imm O visa (issued in Chiang Mai) earlier this year and lost about 5 days. Not a big deal but they did not give me a full year from when my 90 day extension was to expire.

@Jeff ******
that is totally strange and NOT how it normally works at all ๐Ÿ˜• you mean your 90 day non-O VISA was expiring and they didn't add a year to it,

you said your 90 day extension, did you CHANGE the reason for your extension from one to another? when you change the reason for an extension ( marriage to retirement, vice-versa, etc) they start the new extension on the day you apply (as a rule)

None of the above. I killed my O-A by leaving without a reentry permit. returned visa exempt. Got a 90 day Non-O. Went back about 60 days later for an Extension based on retirement. They added on about 360 days, not a full year as I expected too. Photos if you really want them.

I would say strange too. My non o visa expired 13 mar 2022 and my extension expires 13 mar 2023. Both from Chiangmai.

Thank you
@Tod ********
. I should have also asked when coming in on 30-day exemption entry, then applying for the 90-day Non-O. Will the start date of Non-O be the date of applying or the end of exemption entry date?
