When does the extension start when applying for a visa extension in Thailand?

Hi everyone, asking for a friend on the basis of visa exempt. Free 60 days and they want to extend for the 30. If they go to immigration let’s say a week before the full 60 is up, does the extension start from the time they go to the office or the time that the 60 days will expire? I remember it being when you go to the office, but reading mixed results online. Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the process and timing of extending a 60-day visa exemption in Thailand. It clarifies that the extension period is added to the end of the original visa period, meaning that applying for the extension before the 60 days expire does not cause any loss of days. Various comments confirm that extensions can typically be applied for up to 15 days early without affecting the start of the new extension period, with anecdotal experiences differing slightly by location.

Depends, I’ve been 10 days early an got a stamp from that day, but usually it’s at the end.

It goes from date when you get it. He should go on the last day of the 60 day exemption.

A tourism extension is added onto the end of a tourism entry stamp. No days are lost by applying early.
