Hello everyone. Could use a really good advice. I’m Dutch citizen and arrived Bangkok 17th of February on visa exemption. Visa is expiring on April 2nd. What are my options?

I heard about a 60 days Covid extension. Can I avail of that?

And in some messages here I read it gets added on top of your expiration date (so x days after 2nd of april regardless of when I receive the extension). Is that also possible in my case?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Dutch citizen currently in Thailand with a visa exemption expiring on April 2nd is seeking advice on their options for extension. They heard about a 60-day COVID extension but are uncertain about eligibility and how it affects their current visa expiration date. Responses indicate that while a 60-day extension may be possible, many immigration offices require a preliminary 30-day tourist extension. Additionally, it's noted that the COVID extension is typically added on top of the existing visa's expiration date, but specifics may vary.

If you apply normal 30days extension, it is added to your current stamp. Covid extension is not always like that.

Check this, how the covid extension works (by

That's clear then, thank you :)

Covid extension is rather a temporary measure. For TR entry, only ONCE 30 days extension is available. Not entry stamp + 30days+ 30days. If you can apply for Covid extension or not depends on what the Thai government issues on the day of your application. The government may or may not continue covid extension measure, or it may introduce another measure, or no temporary measure any more after 3oth March.

Thanks Ellie, I can't find any information about the covid extension on the Embassy website. There I read only 30 days and then an extension of 30 days is possible. But as I read it here due to the Covid situation it's perhaps possible to get another 60 days after that?

Maybe. Most immigration offices want a person to get a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism first.

>And in some messages here I read it gets added on top of your expiration date

It is, the last day they are selling the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 is March 30 though. You'll be losing only 3 days (if the extension of stay starts on the day you apply for it)

Just wondering, when you say they want a person to get a 30 day extension first. Do you mean it might be possible afterwards the first 30 days extension?

So it added on, but not in all cases?

As of right now, no. The last day they are selling the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 is March 30. I don't think any immigration offices allow you to purchase a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism, and then at the same day purchase a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.
