Morning! I have a question on extending visas, my Malaysian parents are coming end of the year, I had mistakenly thought we were on a visa free for 45 days arrangement but now I see it was only up to March 2023. I would like them to come for 40 days. Last time they stayed 31 days and I was fined 1000 bath per person per day... What less pricey (than fines) alternatives do I have?

Take them to a border town? Can we do a day trip? Where’s the best/nearest place from bkk to do this?

Immigration visit to extend? For this route they will need to apply for visa in the first place in Malaysia and that’s another inconvenience as they stay a little ways out of KL where the embassy is..

Worse case, I will send them home after 30 days... 😞 my parents are 80 plus so even 10 days a year means a lot to us..

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on extending the stay of their Malaysian parents in Thailand, who are arriving soon. Initially mistaken about the duration of the visa-free entry, they are looking for alternatives to fines incurred from overstaying. Responses suggest that Malaysian nationals can enter Thailand visa-exempt for 30 days and extend for an additional 30 days for a fee of 1900 baht at a local immigration office or apply for a tourist visa for a 60-day stay beforehand. Additionally, reminders about the requirement for an outbound ticket when entering Thailand are mentioned.

you got 2 choices: 1) get a tourist visa (60days) at the local thai embassy. 2) get here on visa exempt and then apply for a 30days extension@1900baht. Remember that airlines will require you to show an outbound ticket out of the country within 30 days so you might need to buy an onward ticket

if you have no visa 99.9% of the times the ground stuff will require you a proof that you are leaving the country in 30days otherwise they won't let you check-in. Airlines are very careful about this point cuz if the immigration won't let in the country, they are responsible to fly you out and cover the expenses ;)

As Malaysian nationals they can enter under the tourist visa exempt scheme for an initial entry of 30 days, and then for a fee of 1900 baht they can go to your local immigration and extend that for a further 30 days.

thank you!! I had been confused that they’d need an actual visa in the first place for extensions. So, happy to pay 4K bath for them to stay another two weeks 😄 yayyy

they live a bit further out so that’s not a great option.. it’s easier for me to manage it in bkk for them.
