Answer summary
The original poster is concerned about using 60 days of visa exemption followed by a potential 30-day extension for a total of 90 days in Thailand, amidst rumors of new visa extension rules. Commenters confirmed that the 60-day visa exemption is still in effect, and he will likely receive a 60-day stamp upon entry, plus a possibility of extending for an additional 30 days. Many recommended having proof of outbound travel within the first 60 days to avoid issues with airlines and immigration.

pay for expedited processing of normal tourist visa from your nearest consulate/embassy....get a 90 that'll be 60 with a 30dy extension...no need for visa free entry issues
Go to Vietnam for a couple of the days after the 30 days are up. It's only a $100 flight. And it's only an hour from chiang mai and a forty dollar visa
Even without the change the airline could refuse you boarding as they are responsible to make sure you have a booking to leave Thailand within 60 days, not 90, the airline have no idea if you can get an extension so should work on 60 days max whatever. If I saw you I would get a cheap train or even bus ticket to Laos from Udon thani and download it on your phone,it's only about 5 us dollars. Twice I was asked by Qatar airways at London for proof of leaving g as my return ticket with them to London was way over 60 days and they accepted the bus ticket both times, the immigration officer at Bangkok also wanted proof and accepted the bus ticket.
As stated several times aready, the biggest risk is with the airline although Immigrations are also a risk. If you don't have an exit booked within the allowed visa period they can and sometimes do refuse boarding. It happened to me but only because they missed the O-visa stamp in my passport and when I pointed it out I was allowed to board. Just get a train or bus ticket to Laos before your flight and then if you can't get the extension you can leave Thailand and return and if you can't get back in you can change your flight in Laos
You will still get 60 days visa exempt upon arrival next week, as far as it stands at the moment, so you should be OK. The airline might ask a few questions.
Taluhtoo As you have the REQUIRED (!) onward travel proof – a flight ticket out to Myanmar - within the first 60 days, as well as a return ticket within 90 days, everything is fine for you!
By next week, you will still get stamped in for 60 days and also can extend for 30 more days in Thailand.
Mike Norbert it is too late for a visa application. And he doesn't need it. Next week, he will still get stamped in for 60 days and can extend for 30 more days in Thailand
Steven L. Daugherty it is too late for a visa application. And he doesn't need it. Next week, he will still get stamped in for 60 days and can extend for 30 more days in Thailand
Timothy Joseph Bennett it is too late for a visa application. And he doesn't need it. Next week, he will still get stamped in for 60 days and can extend for 30 more days in Thailand
Jack Roubaix it is too late for a visa application. And he doesn't need it. Next week, he will still get stamped in for 60 days and can extend for 30 more days in Thailand
First of all..you took a risk by assuming you could stay 90 days. Officially you need to be able to show that you have arranged transport out of the country within the 60 days. You would probably get the 30 days extension..but it's not something that they want you to count on. Better buy a $10 bus ticket outta of Thailand before you go to the airport...there is a chance that your flight company might not let your board if you can't show proof of transport out of Thailand within the 60 days.
Besides that..since you're flying next week, you'll most likely be fine. But if you want to be even more prepared, you could apply for the Single Entry Tourist Visa asap!
Susan Lucas well, some airlines ignore this law (yes - it is the law when you want to board a flight to another country without a visa) but most airlines will insist on an onward travel proof
Sitje Sohngtaew it is too late for a visa application. And he doesn't need it. Next week, he will still get stamped in for 60 days and can extend for 30 more days in Thailand
Phil Will exactly why people continue taking a piss on rules instead of just getting a visa for that extra long “holiday “. Lazy or just ignorant…or both.
Petr S. Van Valkenburg totally irrelevant. The rule is that you must have a ticket out of Thailand at the latest the date that will be stamped in your passport.
Petr S. Van Valkenburg Well - it's possible you'll be unlucky. Your return flight must be within the visa-waiver period, and you can't include an extension in that because it's not guaranteed.
Ralph Tyson same here , even though all the stamps showed I never stayed more than 21 days. They insisted I showed them a return ticket and this was 4 weeks ago
Ralph Tyson he has a flight ticket out withing the first 60 days, as well as a return ticket within 90 days. Everything is fine. Next week, he will still get stamped in for 60 days and can extend for 30 more days in Thailand

Nongnuch Kamdee he wrote in his initial post that he has a return ticket 90 days after entry.
If he wrote in one of the dozens of comments that he has an onward ticket within the first 60 days everything is fine. But to be honest I don't read all comments and sub-comments to find potential important additional I from OP

Flight out is at 60 days not 90. You don't have a 30 day extension yet. Most people not planning to stay here just get the reservation online and print it out without paying the return.
You know the 60-day visa exemption is still ongoing until it is being posted at Royal Gazette + 15 days grace period. Meaning if your trip to Thailand from today until...whenever you read the official announcement + 15 days, you will still get 59 days stamped on your passport upon arrival.
